Ivf

Looking to hear others experience of treatment if you conceived by IVF. I had two cycles of infertility treatment by using the Gonfal-F pen followed by insemination. No luck of becoming pregnant so now it's time to move onto IVF. (Before that treatment I was on clomid with inseminantion for 5 months). We will start IVF treatment in September. I am nervous and scared. The doctor says we have a 75% of becoming pregnant by December.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank my 1st you all for your support! I just had my egg retrieval appt and had 14 eggs removed. 8 of them fertilized. I will go back on 10/26 for the transfer. I'll keep you all posted. Thank you again!

IVF worked the 1st time! We are expecting a baby boy in mid July 2008. Thank you all for your responses.

Hi Stefanie,
I am also a mother of a 2 year old daughter. After 12 years of trying, including IVF treatments, I finally conceived naturally. This happened at the late age of 39, two years after giving up on the whole thing. My infertility was primarily caused by PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), a common cause of infertility. After inadvertently getting my blood glucose under good control with diet and medication, I guess I finally started ovulating on my own. Although my pregnancy was not the result of IVF , I understand fully the emotions and the physical stress of the treatments. So many women have had success with IVF resulting in a beautiful healthy baby. I wish you all the best and remember that sometimes when you feel the most hopeless and stressed out, life stops you in your tracks and surprises you.

It depends on what your health issues are. IVF works really well for some women and not for others. Also, finding the right protocol is key.
So, it's important to go to a good clinic/Dr. because it can be such a difficult process. My fisrt try with IVF was terrible. I went a clinic in NYC. My second time was great though, I went to the Cooper Inst in Marlton NJ, great people! Yes, the injections can be intimidating but try to put a positive spin on things. My husband always maked me laugh when he stuck me. I concieved my daughter, now 21 months, at the age of 41. I'm going to try again this fall with a Dr. closer to home. Good luck & God bless!

Stefanie,
It sounds like you've been through a whole lot. I conceived via the IVF procedure, and have a 19 month old son as a result. We are going to start another round this October, except this time should be easier since I have some frozen embryos. In any case, I got pregnant with the first try, I never did any other procedures prior to IVF so I consider myself pretty lucky. The IVF requires an amazing level of commitment. There are 4 to 5 shots nightly followed by pills and almost daily visits for blood tests and internal sonograms. I have to say, it was a bit painful during the cycle, because your ovaries get hyper extended, but like labor pains you'll forget about them (just can't wear tight clothes). It's worth it, considering you are already going through so much. I found with these procedures the Dr., or better yet the center, is what makes or breaks the experience. I started with one center, and every time i called them I had to explain my life story before they put me through to a nurse. I switched, and the group I went with were wonderful. The case managed everything, which means I was assigned a personal nurse who called me nightly to tell me the daily next steps. Much luck to you, and please email me if have any specific questions or just want more info.

Hello Stefanie:

I hope your having a wonderful morning! I gave birth to my amazing twin daughters through IVF in December 2001 in Los Angeles. I absolutely loved my doctor and all of the nurses were extremely helpful through the process.

It was a very positive experience, although very emotional for me and my husband! In the first 28 days I was on birth control pills, then followed by lupron but instead of supressing my ovaries, it stimulated them so I was then switched to Antagon which worked miracles, followed by follistim and all the other drugs that it takes to conceive.
The best advise that I can give you is to remain positive at all giving points of the process because it can be a very tedious schedule with the ultrasound appts and blood work but well worth the miracle of life.

There is no time to second guess whether or not the ivf will be a success for you and your husband. Please learn to meditate and visual your success and keep your thoughts free and clear of anything negative. Prior to the process, I did a castor oil pack which is an old school remedy to clean your intestines, ovaries and all other organs and while I did the pack ever night for about 30-1hour, I would meditate...because I wanted to conceive so badly Stefanie that I felt, I had to cleanse my body of all impurities before, I was able to conceive.

I truly understand that not everyone will agree but, I had nothing to loose! As a result, I have two remarkable little girls and i never in my entire life ever thought I could have children because as a result of numerous etopic pregnancies, my tubes were removed because they ruptured so ivf was my only hope and I conceived on my 1st IVF.

What also was very helpful was going online and chatting with women who already experienced ivf and had a failed cycle or a successful cycle. Knowing that there were women who were experiencing the same thing as me was an emotional journey but worth ever tear that I shed.

Good Luck and please keep me posted on your ivf journey..

Hi Stefanie,
The injections are the most intimidating thing about IVF so if you've already done that with inseminations, its no big deal:-) I did SEVEN cycles before being blessed with my wonderful girls, now almost 17 months old! If you have any specific questions or concerns feel free to email me, I would love to help if I can.

Good luck!

I whish you all of the luck in the world. This procedure works great for some women but for others it does not. When I tried it it did not work for me. Whe I gave up and tried accupuncture for 1 month and got preggo the first try. Accupuncture seems to have the same rate of conception as ivf. Whatever you decide best of luck to you. It sounds like you have a great and supportive hubby which really can make a difference. ::)

Dear Stephanie-
I had invitro three times. The first time it worked. I have a 25 month old son. The last two times did not work. I was so frustrated, I decided to try another specialist. I just recently had artifical insemination, which also didn't work.
In vitro is so expensive any most insurance companies will not cover the expense of invitro.
