I am planning on trying for another baby in December/January (I know it's a long while off). I have the Mirena IUD right now. How soon do I need to have my IUD removed before I start trying again?

What can I do next?

Hi H.,

When I got my Mirena removed, the doctor said to wait one full cycle before trying to conceive.

Good luck!!

I do not have any medical advice -- only my experience -- I hope it helps. With my second child (Eva-the-diva who is turning 3 this May), I had the Mirena taken out in March and got pregnant in August. No problems. Good luck and best wishes for your family. ;-)

When I had my IUD removed between baby 1 and 2, I was told to wait 1 cycle. I had intended to, but it happened before we were "officially trying". I guess I had expected the 2 to 3 months that it can take for your body to normalize when you get off the pill. It will obviously depend on your body, but it can happen immediately!

I just had my Mirena IUD removed in November. The doctor said to let my body have one period on its own before trying to get pregnant. I had a period at the end of November, and bam, I was pregnant. Now I am 3 months along! Good luck!

Hi H.!

My husband and I have also decided to try for a second baby! I had my IUD removed on December 18 and am still trying! It must depend on how quickly your body regulates back to a normal hormonal cycle. I know I am probably still adjusting because I have been seriously MOODY since having it removed!!

Good Luck!

I was told I shouldn't have more children because of complications with my first child (and didn't think I could get pregnant anyway - first child was an artificial insimination baby), so I had an IUD put in. Then after 4 years it became dislodged and was causing pain, so I had to have it removed. We were trying to figure out what kind of birth control to use, and I was pregnant 4 weeks later. We were shocked! Good luck!

I had my Mirena for about 3 yrs (after my son was born). I had it removed in June of 2006 and was pregnant with my daughter in July.

BTW- You will have about a 2 week period right after you have it removed because of all the time you didn't have one with it in. That's about all it messes with. It really shouldn't affect your hormones.

Good luck!

The answer will vary from person to person but I had mine (also Mirena) removed the beginning of Oct and had a very short period a week later (maybe 2-3 days). Not sure if it was really a period, anyway I didn't have a real period until the end of Dec and got pregnant right after that. I am now 10wks along. Good Luck and I hope this helps!

I had my IUD removed in November, my doctor said I could get pregnant as soon as I ovulated that month! I had the IUD with no hormones, I'm not sure if the hormone ones would be the same. Good luck with your baby making!

When I had mine placed in I believe my doctor said it is immediatly reversed. It depends on your body and how easily you get pregnant from there. Me, I am very fertile. I got the IUD because with my son I was off the pills for 3 weeks and became pregnant. With a newborn I was sure I would forget the pills.

Hello,

I had one for I guess I would say 2 yrs. before me and my husband got married. Once we were married I had it removed cause he wanted to have children, that was back in January 2005. We now have a 3 month old, now I cant say it took this long to get preggie but thats how long it was since I got pregant. Most doctors say atleast a month so that your body can get back to normalor atleast 2 cycles.

Now, Alittle helpful advice you can try it if you want to. Our doctor told us the best time to try to have a baby is right before you ovulate I never knew when that was til she told me. Most women dont know, I felt alittle stupid when she told me cause I figured I always have a infection during this time of the month, but, I understand now. From the first day of your cycle you need to count 14 days from that point you will notice you havea slight discharge a clear stringy discharge this is the beginning of your ovulation, she said at that point or even a few days before that me and my husband should start having sex for two or three days there after kinda space it inbetween. And a few months later I notice I was getting sicker than a dog, we were pregnant. Well now I have made my self embarrassed I will close this advice. And just say good luck.

I had my IUD out for six months, and a water filled ultrasound to check for uterine scarring from the IUD before we got pregnant.

I have the Mirena as well. My doctor said as soon as it is removed you can start trying. The hormone is only released in the uterus itself and so is not in your blood stream. Unlike the pill or the shot, you don't have to wait 1 to 3 months before trying. Hope this helps.

I believe it needs to be out a year ahead of time.
