Is This Normal of a 2 Month Old?

I am so sorry if this comes off as bragging to any new Mommies who are having a rough time with sleep but I swear I have had my fair share of sleepless nights and days so I feel for you and I am not bragging at all. The last 2 nights in a row now my just turned 2 month old baby has slept for 7 1/2 hrs straight and 8 1/2 hrs straight. I am ecstatic at the sleep that we have gotten because of this but I am a bit unsure as to how such a young baby can do this. She is my second baby and is breastfed with no supplements (ie: formula). We give her a bottle of breastmilk before bed so we know just how much she is drinking and she usually gets about 6 oz in her, a clean diaper then its off to bed. 2 nights ago she slept for 7 1/2 hrs and then yesterday she had her first shots so I can sort of see why last night she would have slept for quite some time but if this is a pattern is it normal for her to be sleeping for such long stretches without waking to feed? Dont get me wrong I am totally for it and embracing it but it just seems so odd for her to be doing this at such a young age. My first born was breastfed as well and she didnt start giving us 8 solid hrs until she was like 6-7 months so 2 months just doesnt fit with what Im used to but I know every child is different so....
Thanks in advance for any input and Happy Hump Day

ETA: She is growing and thriving very well - was 9 lbs at birth is now 12.3 lbs and is in the 95% for her weight, height and head cir.

My baby gave us long, consistent 7-8 night sleeps around 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 months. Then, it ended :). Enjoy the sleep and give her big kisses when she wakes up.

Now, at 6 months, we're closet to that, but not entirely.

My first started sleeping 13 hours at 3 weeks old. They are all different. I
will never wake a sleeping baby!! If she continues to sleep like this, she
may want to eat more often during the day. Congratulations.

Normal for your baby as it was for mine! I have 4 children, the youngest just turned a year old last month. She began sleeping through the night since she was 3 1/2 weeks old. This was so strange and so foreign to me but my lactation consultant said to let her sleep! I can't say I got much sleep because I kept waking anyway to check on her and breast feed her but yeah, this is normal for some babies. Enjoy it.

my daughter at around that age slept for 11 hours straight. i would wake up to see if she was awake then i would pump and go back to bed. people asked why i didnt wake her and i said if she was hungry she would let me know. all i would do is to check if she was breathing (every 3 hours when i would wake to pump and feed). enjoy it some babies sleep longer then others.

One of my babies did that off and on from 4weeks and especially around 8 weeks and I too was really worried but the paediatrician said not to worry, that some babies do this and they can go that long without feeding. At 12 weeks she started sleeping through the night so it was a blessing. Now at 8 months, I just wish she would have longer than 45 minute naps lol! There's always something... HTH

My sons was very similar to your daughter. Exclusively BF, and was 12+ lbs at 2 months. He started sleeping 11-7 around a month. I got some slack from family for not waking him up to eat, but his pediatrician said as long as he was eating during the day and was gaining weight (and boy was he, he was a biiiiig boy) to let him sleep as much as he wanted. So we did, and while I got some mean looks from friends whose much older babies were still getting up for that 3am feeding we were all well rested and quite happy. His bedtime slowly got earlier and at 12 mos he is now sleeping 8:30p-7:30a. I maintain my "don't wake a sleeping baby" motto! Sleep tight!

It is absolutely normal. All my kids were breastfed until 7-8 months. The first started sleeping 8 to 10 hour stretches at 3 months, but did 6-7 hour stretches at 6 weeks. My younger 2 both started sleeping 6 to 7 hour stretches at 2 weeks and 8-10 hours straight at 6 weeks! Every child is different. As long as he is growing and developing normally, NEVER wake a sleeping baby to feed them. Why get him into the habit of waking if he doesn't need to?! My babies all seemed to cluster feed in the evening... I think they were just getting ready for the night ahead. Worked for me! Sounds like you and the baby are doing just fine!

My daughter was sleeping thru the night at 6 weeks, roughly 8-12 hours a night. She did this until exactly 9 months. And then, Hello Sleep Regression!

Enjoy it and get some sleep!

My son was sleeping through the night (8-10) hours by 6 weeks. My doctor told me as long as mu son was gaining weight and healthy, to never wake a sleeping baby. If your child is underweight and not thriving, I would consider waking to feed.

Hi Babydoos Mama,

Normal is around 6-8 weeks. As long as the child is not hungry, wet or gassy, he/she can sleep through the night.

You realize you just jinxed yourself right?

My son came home from the hospital sleeping 5+ hours a stretch. Then he'd spend the next 5 hours nursing pretty much nonstop....then sleep another 5. It was awesome
