Is It Too Much Much Money?
My child just turned six years old and I am considering enrolling her in summer camp. The aftrschool program she attends will become summer camp in July and the cost is $450. Is this too much? Are there any good summer programs anyone knows about?

Hey C.,
It depends on what is offered for the $450. Is it $450 in total for the whole summer or weekly. Where are you located? Did you look into the YMCA or the boys and girls club? Email me, ____@____.com, with the area you're looking in and I'll see if I can research it for you. Hang in there, I'm a single mom too. We can use all the support we can get. I have a second job also, but it doesn't take away any time from my son and it compensates well. Let me know if you're interested to know more about that too.
Best wishes,
C. S.

I live in NE Bronx and the summer 2007 programs were well over $2,000 and they weren't offering anything good for that price. Most of the programs I've found this year are in $350+ per week and only run for 6 weeks, which leaves me searching again for August/September. If the program fits you and your child's needs, then it is great.

Our town camp costs $260 a week this year. It's open 8-6 and there's a good field trip every week. Hope that helps you compare.

I don't think it's too much money. I'm from NJ and the summer camps I looked into last year ranged from $3K to $5K. I did find a cheaper one through a non-profit organization but it was not lavish at all but served its purpose. This year I'm enrolling him in the summer camp offered by his after schol program and it will be around $650 (not including 2 weeks that he will miss)
