Is It Safe to Have Sex After You Lose Your Mucous Plug

I lost the rest of my mucous plug this morning it was the part with the blood in it, BUt my water has not broke. Is it safe to continue to have sex? I should also mention I'm 3 days past my due date and am scheduled to be induced on Monday the 2nd

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Well with all the conflicting advice I called the hospital and spoke to labor and delivery. They said it is safe to have sex unless my water breaks or starts to leak. They said at this point it would probably help me to go into labor. Thanks for all the advice

I have been told by various doctors and midwives that not only is it safe, it will help induce labor. Go for it!

i would call your ob right away and let them know what's going on. he or she would be the best person to determine what would be safest for you and your baby. good luck!!

A., As a mother... I would say no just to be safe, especially since it seems this is your first full term child. Plus your going to be induced on Monday and it might break your water?? Check with your OB/GYN and do exactly as he/she says. Congrats & Good Luck as a Young New Mom! C. C

I see you have gotten two conflicting sets of advice. You can always talk to your doctor about it if you are concerned. I would agree with those who said it is completely safe. Now if your water starts leaking or breaks, then no, you shouldn't because of the risk of infection. And in some cases it will help start labor.

Our doctor actually suggested it so we could induce labor and it worked...I went into labor within 24hrs after losing mine.

NO,No,and Nooooooooo!
My doctor wouldn't even let me sit down in a tub of water for fear of bacteria getting up where it didn't need to be... so for Pity sake,, have some self control... It can wait! Good luck

Yes, it is safe as long as your water bag is intact. Sex may even bring on labor, but don't count on it!

They say no because there is no protection between baby and outside germs now.
