I developed a UTI over the past couple of days and I'm currently taking a generic brand of AZO and it has helped a lot since I started taking it.. Today I noticed small egg white cervical mucus while wiping myself clean and I know I'm about to Ovulate in the next couple of days.. My hubby and I are trying for our 2nd child and I wanted to know if it was okay to do the BD while having UTI and taking AZO??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for their response - I've contact my daughter's Godfather who is a urologist, and he said for me to stop AZO and see if my symptoms persists.. if they do to contact my dr. So far my symtpoms hasn't come back and now I think I'm developing yeast infection GEEZ! When will it end! So I'm off to the store to get some meds and some cranberry juice to continue to prevent UTI from here on out! Thanks again!

Having the "baby dance" can actually make it worse. Not to mention, AZO doesn't cure UTI's, it only stops the pain (temporarily at that). If you have a UTI, you need to have an antibiotic called in before it spreads to your bladder or kidneys.

You shouldn't have a problem at all. I actually had a UTI a couple of weeks ago and didn't know it (doc told me...although I'm currently pregnant). I really wouldn't worry about it at all.

(Just a note though...D-Mannose powder is awesome for UTI's)

Hey K. - I am a mom of two and also a nurse. I would advise you to talk with your OBGYN about this issue. I would think that being free from infection and being off of AZO would be a better environment, and safer for an egg to be fertilized, but again, talking w/ your OB would be the best advice I could give. :)

AZO does not cure UTI -- it only helps with symptoms. If you have an infection, you'll need an prescription for an antibiotic/anti-infective.

I would double-check with your OB-Gyn but I'm pretty sure it would be fine to get pregnant while treating a UTI. But be aware that having sex during a UTI may aggravate it. And be sure to pee after each "encounter" -- having sex can push bacteria up your urethra.

Unfortunately, I more than a little experience here.

If you have an infection, you are going to need an antibiotic anyway.

To get pregnant, you don't want to jump up right after to go pee, but if you are sick, you REALLY need to get up or it is going to get worse, and fast. Lessens your chance, but it's better than nothing!

Safe? That's arguable. It's is an infection and can be exacerbated. I would suggest starting a course of antibiotics to clear up quickly and ask the doc his opinion.

It's not good to let them go untreated as they can spread and become kidney infections and result in permanent damage. I am not one to medicate quickly, but UTI's are bacterial in nature, and that's what antibiotics are for.

Keep in mind that if you are "sick" and you choose to try to conceive, babies don't always tolerate being sick well and if it's not an ideal time for your body, the pregnancy may not happen or hold anyway. Bodies are perfect in design and have a way of ensuring what's best. You may also end up on an antibiotic that is contraindicated in pregnancy and you wouldn't want that flowing through your veins with a very young pregnancy.

Just food for thought - but ask your doc. Happy baby making! :-)
