Is It Rude to Ask for Money Back?

I have been researching slides for my twins babies that are turning 2 next week. We decided to buy one used as it is much cheaper. I have been watching KSL classifieds for weeks and the prices for the 8 in 1 Little Tikes climber were going for around $225. So Saturday we found one and bought it for $225. I came home and was heart sick to find one that sold (while I was gone picking up mine) for $50! Today I looked and two more sold yesterday for $95. I don't know why all of a sudden they are being priced lower. I feel jipped and would like to call the guy back and ask him to refund at least some of the money, but my husband said we agreed to pay that so we are stuck. What do you think?

What can I do next?

I think the idea is that you paid what you thought it was worth. Timing is everything and you can't really blame him for charging you an amount that you thought was ok at the time. The other ones might not be in the same condition either.

Hi S. - I dont think it's ethical to try and renegotiate the price after the sale is done.

sorry.

Yes it is very rude and absolutely out of the question. You just made a poor decision. Live and learn.

Your husband is right. You made an agreement and you need to stick to it. I doubt the guy was trying to jip you, he probably, like you, just sold it for what he thought it was worth and you bought it. He probably never even looked at other prices to compare.

We just sold our trailer to the first person that made an offer and over the next couple of days we were offered $200+ more dollars for it by several people. We had no idea it was so valuable and my first thought was to not sell it to the first guy. Ethically, we kept our agreement with the first guy and sold it for a few hundred less than we could have.

Keep your word and just chalk it up as a learning experience. = )

Once you agree to a price and purchase the item it is really too late to decide that the item was priced too high. If you had bought it at a store it would be different, you could return it for a refund or store credit. But since you bought it from a regular person unless there is something really wrong with the item you really shouldn't ask for your money back. YOu should also consider the idea that maybe the playsets that are selling for so much cheaper are in worse condition, it would make you feel better about your purchase if this is true!

From the store, I think it's fine to go back, but in that situation, probably not.

You agreed on the price and now you are stuck, especially since it was just from some guy instead of a store.

Sorry! I know it's frustrating.

Sorry to say but your husband is right. Not the seller's problem that you are now finding the product for less. Personally, he was lucky to have sold it for close to what he paid for it...and I'm sure he knows that. Lesson learned, shop around a little more and a little longer next time. Enjoy what you have now!

I would bet that the person who listed the 8 in 1 slide watched the prices too and priced it where the others were. It couldn't hurt to ask, but I don't think the guy was trying to take advantage of you...Good luck!!! I paid $400 for a brand new one several years ago and it was totally worth the $$. I wish there would have been ksl.com where we lived at the time.

I think ALL classified sales, including Craigslist, are final. That's pretty muich understood. YOu could buy the cheaper one, and then try to sell the expensive one on classifieds and see if you can get some of your money back.
