Is It Possible My Pregnancy Is Hysterical?

I just found out a week ago that I'm pregnant. We are both young and had talked about trying to have kids but hadnt made a definite deicision either way, but we're both really happy about the pregnancy. When I got to really thinking about it though we had hardly had sex in the month I would have conceived. On top of that neither of us are even sure if he well ya know finished when we were having sex. Is it possible my pregnancy is hysterical because I wanted a baby if so is there any way I would know?

Some one asked how I found out, I did take a pee test as well as went into my doctor who did his own pee test. He also took blood to send to my OBGYN. But I read online that hysterical pregnancies can cause false positives and I dont want to get my hopes up if there is no baby.

You can't fool a blood test. If that one is positive, then you're definitely pregnant.

Well you don't have to "finish" in order to get pregnant and you only have to do it one time at the right time to get pregnant. So if you have taken a test and it was positive odds are you are pregnant. I would go in as soon as possible to the doctor and get check out...if you don't have insurance you can get covered through DSHS give them a call. Not having insurance is not an excuse to not go in. Go in and get a blood test to confirm if you are not certain. Congrats if you are.

K. - I didn't read what anyone else said, but here's what I think.
You said, "We hardly even had sex that month" You did NOT say, we didn't have sex.
When I found out I was pregnant with my second I was with my mom because I was going to have surgery. They told me I was pregnant and I said the same thing, "Oh my god, we hardly even had sex, and when we did it wasn't that good!" My mom burst into laughter and told me that it doesn't have to be good to get pregnant and that just once is enough!

If you are concerned about it being a false pregnancy, there is really only one way to tell for sure. Get an appointment with your OB and get a sonogram. With 2 pee tests and blood work, you probaby really are. The sonogram will put you at ease and give you an idea of how far along plus a due date.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!
I don't know to much about hysterical pregnancies. I do know "hardly had sex" is enough and he doesn't need to "finish". When my son was concieved we only had sex once for a few minutes and he didn't finish either. My boyfriend had just broken up with me and his best friend took me out for drinks to "comfort me", you can guess how the night ended. We were never together again and 20 years later my son looks exactly like him.
I am sure it is possible that your pregnancy is hysterical but is also just as possible that you are expecting a baby. Hopefully the results from the blood test will come back soon and you won't have to wonder for long. Best of luck to you!

The blood test should tell you everything you need so take a deep breath and relax. Good luck

Hi K.,

The only way I know of is to request your OB to do an ultrasound and see if there is a baby growing. Good Luck.

It only takes one time at the right time of the month, when your ovulating. Also, the man does not need to finish, the pre-semen is enough for you to get pregnant.

I hope everything works out for both of you, but it sounds like your pregnant. Can you remember the last period you had? Also, was it a normal period?

When I was pregnant with my first child, one month I only spotted, so I didn't know I was already pregnant, so we thought maybe next month, then I didn't start my period the following month and had in fact already been pregnant and when I went to the doctor I was further along than I thought.

Good luck.

Hello,

I don't want to get your hopes up but my husband and I had sex only twice in one month and I am very much pregnant, so there is hope that you are too - it doesn't take more than once and only a little of "you know" to conceive a baby.

best of luck

It sounds like you have done the medically responsible part. Until you know for sure, nurture yourself. Consider taking a prenatal vitamin, including folic acid, which will not hurt and only help to increase your health whether you are pregnant or not. Consider counseling with trusted clergy, Planned Parenthood, or family counseling in your area. Enlist the support of any friends and family members you can trust to remain objective. Just take it a day at a time. If it's meant to be, it will happen. And if not now, perhaps later. Try to have some fun while you await confirmation of your pregnancy. It's wonderful that you and your partner are so happy with the prospect of having a baby! I wish you happiness either way.
