Just remember to check your trash cans before you dump them. I have found toys in the trash and we have shoes that have lost their mates.

Yes, it drove me nuts but this is totally normal and a big part of development. Rest easy.

My 18 month old does this too... he's totally OCD about stacking stuff, putting it somewhere, taking it out, lining it up... as far as the climbing... my kid's a ninja monkey. It's so bad. He'd climb the ceiling if I'd let him. Yes, it's normal. As far as what's next... he's going to hurt himself real bad one time, and learn not to do THAT again ;)

Like Stressedmommy said. Check your trash cans before you dump them. I have pulled cell phones, tv controllers, keys and other valueables out of the trash. A friend pulled her wallet with her money, drivers license, etc out of her trash.

Give him some lincoln logs or Large legos. He can pull those out and not hurt anything. You can use a dust pan to scoop them up and put them back in the box.

I handed my son (now almost 3) a damp sponge (no soaps of any kind) and let him go to town on 'helpin mommy wipe stuff'.

Or we played with blocks of all sorts. We built stuff. In the garage, he has his very own screwdriver and 'things to fix'. We give him old monitors (with the cords cut off) or toy cars that he can mangle.

You little guy is getting his mind working and sounds like you've got a super smart kid!

Of course it's normal. It doesn't "mean" anything except he's normal. :-)

Hes learning how things fit in other things, and you should praise him when he fills the basket up. Hes learning to clean up! The climbing thing,, he does it because he can. normal as normal can be. Get video of him,, youll love it 10 years from now.

He's at the Dump and Fill stage. It's normal. It's developmental. He's learning a great deal about physics at an age-appropriate level.

Make the most of his willingness to fill up a basket or box. He can help pick up his toys at the end of a play period. But be sure to keep it fun!

NORMAL (and gets to be annoying too).

One important thing to remember anytime you ask if something is normal is that "NORMAL" is a RANGE on a bell curve....two 17 month olds can be VERY different and both be "normal"
