Is It Medical or Am I Just over Reacting

I know I posted a while back about hair loss after having a baby. And alot said it was probably do to having my baby. My baby is 4 months now, and I'm still losing alot of hair. When I take a shower, I get about a handful of hair, plus I end up clogging the drain with hair that falls out that I dont catch. When I get out of the shower I'm pulling hair off of me. I notice my hair loss after I had a tubal ligation done. Since then every day I have been spotting blood, and I had my surgery on April 30th. Is all of this normal or should I have my doctor run some test when I see him?

What can I do next?

That spotting sounds really weird to me, I would get it looked into as I never had it. I love these hair vitamins on ebay:

If your mind isn't eased, by all means get a professional medical opinion. I had tons of hair loss until about 5-6 months after my son was born. I had the same experience you are having in the shower!

My doc and midwife said the loss was hormonal because you grow extra hair while pregnant (hair is supposed to be thicker and shinier during pregnancy--partly from vitamins and partly from hormones). The extra hair sheds after pregnancy since there aren't hormones to support it.

I found that I lost a little more hair than I thought I grew during the pregnancy. When it finally stopped falling out, I found lots of short 1" hairs growing back in. After that, I was back to normal.

Get your thyroid checked. I was constantly tired, my hair was always falling out, and my skin was dry. If that is your problem you will be on thyroid meds for the rest of your life. Good Luck.

Hi B.,
My hair finally stopped falling out when my son was between 6 & 7 months old. Now that he's 10 mos, I only have a little amount fall out (the normal amount according to my stylist). It seems that it fell out more with my son than with my daughter. Sorry, I know how horrible it feels. I would call my Dr. if the hairloss doesn't get better after a couple of months. As far as the spotting goes, I would call your Dr. It can't hurt. Good luck!

Well I can't tell you anything about the bleeding but as for the hair lose....totally normal. I lost tons and I mean tons of hair after baby #1 and #2. My second baby is 5 months old and I'm still losing lots of hair. I even have a really thin spot at the side of my head by my ear. I don't mind it too much though cause after a while it stops and I have such thick hair that I kinda enjoy losing the hair cause then my hair is a lot thinner and easier to take care of.

I also had the tubal ligation after my c-section and I never had any problems from either. I would suggest that you call your doctor and have him do an ultrasound or something. If you still have problems with the tremendous amount of hairloss I would get probiotics from the health food store. I just remembered that your thyroid also controls hair growth and loss.

My hair loss after having my baby was the same way. I swore I was going BALD! It continued until my baby was about 6 months old. Then it stopped, and honestly, I dont know if it would have continued longer than that because I got pregnant again around that time, so hormones changed again lol. I wouldn't worry about it - it DOES grow back in. In a few months you will have lots of annoying little baby hairs coming in, especially in the front, but hey, I'd rather have annoying baby hairs coming in than NO hair coming back in at all! Good luck!

hey you are worried about it so go to your doc. if everything is normal you will find out and if not you will find out. win win in my book. peace of mind is awesome. :)

Go to the doc. It could just be hormones still out of whack, but my sister & sister-in-law both had that problem (the hair falling out) & both have non-working thyroids. As for the spotting, I'm not sure, but I know I spotted after my babies off & on for a while, especially after I started my birth control after each one. If it concerns you, it's worth mentioning, even if the doc tells you it's normal.
