Is Bed Rest Forever?!?!

Maybe the contractions stopped because you were on bed rest, and might start again if you are taken off. DO NOT take chances. I had contractions that were not taken seriously and lost my baby at 23 weeks. Bravo for the Dr. who is making you stay on bedrest. Once your baby is here all this discomfort you are having will literally melt away. Tell your work you are out for the duration. Best wishes to you and baby :)

I was put on bedrest for my first pg early on. . . Then released and @ 29 weeks went into PTL and stayed on full fledged 22 hour bedrest until the baby delivered @ 37 weeks (it was 48 hours after I was released from Bedrest). I was still contracting regularly w/procardia and bedrest . .. I also had the same issue w/last pg but was only put on modified b/c I was not contracting nearly as much nor did I end up with PTL.. I know how hard it is but believe me it is well worth it . . . hang in there . . .

Bed rest isn't forever....it only lasts until the baby comes.
It might FEEL like forever though.

Get something in writing from your doctor for your employer. He might as well just say that tentatively you are on bed rest for the next 10 weeks.
You've been on bed rest a long time so it would seem strange to try to go back to work for one week and then back on bed rest. If your doctor says you will continue doing what you're doing, to me....that means bed rest until the baby comes, but get it in writing.

I was put on bedrest at 32 weeks and taken off at 36. They really just want you to at least get to 36 weeks. I delivered at 37 weeks avery happy and healthy child! You should ask your doctor about work because, depending on what you do at work, you might be able to still do it. If it is something you could do whiile home, consider that as well (this is what I did). I laid on the couch and worked from home during my time off.

Your doc saying you're going to continue as is, is your answer. You're on bedrest for the duration hon.

Yes, some women are placed on bedrest temporarily, but in my experience that's only when they're placed on modified bedrest to begin with.

I was put on bedrest for 2 of my 3 pregnancies. (I just had our youngest 4 days ago!!!). For the first two, I was put on bedrest around 24 weeks. I was dilated and put on strict (not modified) bedrest. It SUCKED. I got wireless internet in the house and joined online support groups for bedrest mommies. I spent a lot of time on ebay and etsy... and also looking for cheap deals on things I still needed on craigslist (since I could spend hours). My step mom sent me her recipes from Illinois and I typed them up into a nice book for her (you could do this for your own recipes!). I did a LOT to stay busy and stay distracted. I know that it helped my sanity!

I got out of bed at 36 weeks and they were BOTH born within 48 hrs of me being taken off bedrest. So, be sure to follow DR orders and just know that you are giving your child the best chance at life! Even with them being born only a month early, they were both in the NICU for breathing, blood sugar, and temperature issues. It was so hard having them in the NICU... so stay in bed~

And to answer your question more directly...YES, you will remain on bedrest until you deliver. You might deliver early, but you will not go back to work. Tell work you are trying to save your child's life and to STOP asking you when you are coming back. You will be back when the baby is 6 weeks old!

Good luck!!! Hang in there~~ do a lot online that you can, read baby books, call friends and do things you never seem to have time to do. Offer to help friends with projects and things...

When I went into pre-term labor my doc's goal was to get me to 37 weeks, but would be happy with 36 weeks. I didn't make it and had my daughter at 35 weeks. she is fine, but let me tell you leaving her in the nicu for two weeks was very difficult. As you said, do what ever it takes to keep this baby cooking!

With that said, my guess would be anytime after 36/37 weeks you are considered "full term" and it should be OK (in most cases) to deliver. Possibly your doctor may take you off bed rest once you make it to 36 or 37 weeks. i had a friend that was on bed rest from 23 weeks - 36 weeks, got off bed rest at 36 weeks and still carried the baby to term at 40 weeks and then had to be induced! You never know what each precnacy will bring. Gook luck keeping that baby in!

Talk to your Doctor... tell him/her that your Employer, needs to have a time-frame.... Doctors are used to that... and designating that.
Tell your Doctor, you need specifics....

Every case is different.... per the pregnancy/condition of the woman and what is going on....

Hopefully this is your disablity unit asking, not your boss? Because your boss is not supposed to ask. Once you're on medical leave, you only have to deal with your disabilty unit or HR, whoever handles it at your company. I would just let them know your Dr evaluates you each appointment but at this time it appears you may be out until delivery.

Well mine was modified and only laster about a week or so. My contractions were at 28 weeks and the cause was found and treated. But bed resting me was so stressful that my doc may have factored that in the decision. Now i had placenta previa, so i was not allowed to carry anything over 20 lbs and vaginal rest. After 33 weeks when the male doc realized how much walking i was doing he put a stop to that and let me swim instead.
I guess it depends a lot on your doctor, your cause and how many weeks you are. I know of other women who were take off bed rest after 36 weeks. That is considered term, so delivery at that point is not a problem per se. ONe of them went to 41 weeks and 4 days.
