Putting together a birthday party and a local diner in four weeks. Need a theme for the party which isn't easy when your husband is very man and wants a good theme for his boy. Problem the party is for a girl which is turning one and a boy that is turning four. As of right now the the theme is mickey and minnie. Any other ideas that would be easy to find things for.

Thanks.

I have BBG triplets, and this year we did a hat party, where guests were to wear their favorite hats and the "cake" was individually decorated cookies with a minimuffin iced and decorated to look like hats.

A pirate party is always fun. You can make a great pirate ship as the cake. Give me an email if you go with the theme and want other ideas.

Dora and Diego, Barney and Baby Bop or Elmo and Zoey are the only ones that I can think of that would work well together, besides the one you already have! Wow, I do not envy trying to do this party! Good luck and blessings to you!

you could always just do a balloon theme. Its neutral. Get birthday sign, They have plates, napkins, cups with balloons on them and get balloons its simple and its for both boy and girl.
Or if you want more of theme, princess and prince.

I'm a big Disney Fan...but our favorite Disney characters were Tarzan and always loved any of the Winnie-the-Pooh characters. Mixing and matching with any Disney characters works!

Love the Sponge Bob suggestion - he's just happy and they have very cute plates at Factory card outlet (look for the coupon in paper - maybe can find one on-line). Something generic like the Animal / Jungle theme is cute. Personally, anything that your son would have a say-so in picking out, then improvising with your daughter... Add balloons and it's a theme. Good luck!

You could always do a carnavile, or circle theme - I seen this on Kate plus 8.

HI this is A. H. and I suggest you try a Dora and Deiago Party. Give a lot of colors and even a map hunt four the four year olds. Have disney kids music playing as well as childhood favorite songs c.ds. Pinatas and strenmers eveywhere have a real fiesta all the way down to the menu!

Anything that is unisex...Sponge Bob has been a great one. I really think you hit tho' w/ M and M!! Just don't sweat it - it's to be FUN!! No one wants a frazzled Mom. Simple is always best. Be prepared for the "too much birthday" meltdown afterwards!

why not just expand the mickey and minnie theme to a disney theme? that way you could include pirates/cars/etc. for the boy and princesses/etc. for the girl.

Hi K.,

I also thought immediately of Dora & Diego. But honestly, why do their themes have to match? My kids are four years apart and for their 6 & 2 year-old party (born two days apart in April), my daughter chose Hannah Montana and my son, Curious George. We just had George plates/napkins/etc for the boys and Hannah Montana for the girls. Everyone was happy and no one care that they didn't match. There are some stores that will do two themes on one cake, so don't hesitate to ask!
Best of luck!
M.

Since the one year old doesn't have an opinion I would ask what your four year old wants. He may have an idea that is better than anyone could ever give you. Usually if it's a movie there is a girl character in the film that you can work with for the one year old.

My son and his (girl) cousin have a party together every year. They have done things like Dora (pre-Diego), superheros (the favor was decorated capes and I think they each had their own superhero choice on their cakes), baseball. One year they had totally different cakes (I think that was Disney Princess/Firetruck) but the birthday party stuff was all neutral.

My girl and boy are turning 5 and 2 this November and I am doing a joint party. We are doing a jungle theme. I found v. cute invites at the American Greetings store. Monkeys, tigers, zebras, etc. animals are non-specific and you could do any color plates, ballons, etc. Good luck! Have fun!

Mickey & Minnie sounds like good ideas. Right now the 1 year old is too young to really understand. I have thrown combined parties for my children quite a few times because they were born in the same month. As they got a little older I've asked them what they wanted and I've just gotten two smaller cakes for each instead of one big one. I've also purchased different goodie bags to match their choices. It really isn't a big deal. You'll run into this when your one year old gets bigger and wants to have a say in what happens. For now go with Mickey & Minnie, that will definitely work for the two of them.

Hi K.,

These are all great suggestions. I would also like to throw Veggie Tales into the mix. Good luck with your party.
