Internet Blackout Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the big day for hundreds of websites closing down for the day to prove a point. Does anyone know if there is a list of websites shutting down tomorrow? I sure hope this one isn't, i'm not sure I can make it through a day at work without you all.

What can I do next?

If they go through with it, I think it will be wonderful. Just imagine how many loads of laundry and dinners will be cooked on time tomorrow!

It would take effort to take down this site so if I were a gambling woman I would say this site will be up and running. :p

I imagine this site would/should put out notice if it's doing this.
I know Wikipedia is doing so, but am less aware of others.
I don't think this is going to be all that wide spread, though I'd put up with the inconvenience if it were, because I support the Stop SOPA message it's aimed at getting through.

I don't know of a list. I heard Wikepedia and Reddit were blacking out for the day. I know other websites like tumblr, google, twitter and facebook are planning a virtual protest, but I am not exactly sure what that means. Craigslist has a message posted on their site as well.

Just curious....what point are they proving? ETA: I googled (while I still can). Ah, yes, SOPA.

I am SO Proud of those who have decided to do this!!

If you do not know what SOPA is and why they are doing it, you need to get on the research horse and realize that it is taking away freedom of speech and limiting what can be said and what is put up on the internet. Sounds great in theory.....but when you dig into WHO is the creator of this bill...It is the exact same Corporations and people that built the internet and the world we now refer to at the ''web''.

This partnered with the National Defiance Authorization Act pretty much takes what being American USED to mean totally away. It shuts us up in person and in the privacy of the internet.

I commend each net site that is pulling down for the day.

The Occupation supports the sites being pulled down for the day....And I am going to try and stay as far away from the internet tomorrow as I possibly can.......in support of the sites going off line.

They are proving a point...We will not be censored. It is our right as Americans to say what we want, when we want...where we want. You have to truly read and translate the bill they are trying to pass. I have. Same as NDAA. They are scary. The way the word things looks on the surface to be business as usual....but when you do the investigating to turn the bill into English....

Makes me wonder why the hell things had to change so drastically that we now need to censor the internet and detain civilians without trial indefinitely.....Why now? Things have not changed here that much to drawn this measures....unless this is fore shadowing things to come.

I LOVE that they are doing this...I do not see a very conservative site like mamapedia jumping on the band wagon though. They LOVE censorship on this site. It is one of the best things they do here:)

The law is ''for anti-piracy''...but it goes much much much further then that...just as an FYI...They are giving it that name to the Public so it is more widely excepted. Because when you think of the word ''piracy'' you think illegally downloading something.....When they use the word ''piracy'' they mean using wordage they do not like...or saying something ''they'' do not agree with..can get you fined....or in trouble. So they are using play on words to make this sound like something it really is not.

This is why people need to REALLY look into the legislation they are trying to turn into LAW on us...

I thought it was just Wikipedia (big whoop) - it's regarding anti-piracy laws. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/blogpost/post/wikiped...

I haven't heard of any other sites that will close, because most credible sites encourge not stealing other's intellectual property.

Wow it is out. (Wikipedia) Of course Mamapedia is still up and running.

The only way to stand up to corporate America and the politicians is if everyone takes part. But too many of us are too lazy or self absorbed, myself included, to watch what is going on. No one in the higher eschelons of American society will do anything different if it doesn't hit their own pocketbooks.

My excuse, I spend too much time on here and running around to the pool, scouts, band, etc, I don't have the time to sit down and really delve into what bills are being passed.

We are on a slippery slope.
