Interior Design Help? Wanting Help.
Hello Ladies,
I am so bored with my home and am wanting to really decorate it and make it " special " and feel like home.
Even my fiance who has no interest in home decor says he feels our place has help. We just really need the extra little things to make it feel special and personal. We already have our furniture. We just need help with colors and design to spice things up. Id love help decorating our living room and master bedroom.
Does anyone have an suggestions? Refferrals? Will this cost a fortune?

You can do it yourself . . . take something you like (a certain picture, your couch, a throw pillow, etc) focus on that one thing and let it "inspire" you. If it is a picture, take a color from the picture and re-paint the walls that color or just one wall as an accent wall. You can either pick up a bunch of paint swatches from Home Depot/Lowes and bring them home or take the item (picture or throw pillow) to the store to match the paint. Also, the people at the paint counter are usually pretty helpful as well. Just be careful not to use too dark a color in a small room . . . Good Luck!!

Glad you are getting lots of ideas and names here. Few are giving prices though. Wish they would add that on for you. My decorator, Renee Floyd, c ###-###-####, charges about $60 an hour or you can ask her to "stage it" for I think $300. From wall colors and/or texture, decor, inexpensive contractors, refurbishing, tone-on-tone staining of cabinets, reupholstering, custom pillows, what's in or outdated, etc.
(Limitations: She stays with custom drapes and bedspreads. I did some for a dramatic effect in a 2-story living room but got her color ideas and shopped Penny's sale for the other two rooms and got her blessing before she hung them. She's lovely and will delecately steer you from too much clutter or other ways to hang pictures quickly and artistically.
I would steer clear of people that sell you things and can "do the rest" because their expertise may be in just drapes or not being able to pull it together for you. You don't what to know how, you want someone to show you. (You will learn alot from seeing it happen and asking why. You also want someone who has low cost contractors they use frequently so they will have to "fix it" for their frequent customer (the designer) without question.
We'd love to hear more about who you selected and how they did.

Hi! I am a "retired" interior designer, my kids took over. Some small things that could make a big difference are paint and accessories. Paint is fairly inexpensive and could make a world of difference in a "boring" space. Pick a shade that you are drawn to and get some butcher paper. Paint a large sample on the paper and tack it up on the wall. Live with that for a few days and see if it is a color you could live with. If it is too dark, try going a shade or too lighter or too boring, go a shade darker.
Accessories make a big difference as well. You could try adding pillows in coordinating fabric to your existing furniture. Another great trick that I love to use is pictures. I take pictures of my kids and have them enlarged at sites like www.uprinting.com. They produce large prints for fairly inexpensive. With some creative cropping and the right frame, these can look like works of art.

I highly recommend Vita Rinaldi Interior Design - ###-###-####. My husband and I are both accountants, so lacking greatly on the creative side. After 10 years of living in our serile home of white walls and beige carpets, we decided we needed to update everything and needed help to make sure we would be happy with the end results considering the amount of money we were budgeting for new flooring and paint alone. We wanted to make sure we chose the right designs and colors.
A friend recommended Vita to us. She is great. She will either do small jobs or big jobs. Her rate is $50 dollars an hour and no contracts. I couldn't find anyone else for less than $75 an hour. She will give you ideas you can do or take care of everything for you, including coordinating contractors. How and how much you use her service is up to you. Tell her the Browning's referred her. She basically advertises only through referrals. You would be amazed at the transformation of our home.
Have fun,
B.
