I'd be interested to learn of anyone who has adopted from another country in the past three years. If you could tell me what country and what agency you used as a reference I'd be grateful.
If you wouldn't mind me asking you questions (privately) I'd also be very grateful for your assistance. Thank you in advance for any information you could provide me.
This is all very new!

So What Happened?

Thank you Moms! You have gotten me started on my research path for inter-country. There is so much to learn about adoption.
It is absolutely wonderful to know that there is such a supportive group of mothers to help out in time of question and need.
Thank you for all of your help!
God Bless you and all the children over the world.

I have not adopted yet, but am considering it. I see that you've already been directed to Shaohannah's Hope. If there's anyone that can help with information, they are it! So, I'll second that recommendation.

Hi.

My husband and I adopted our son from Russia in 2006. We used the FTIA agency ( Families Thru International Adoption ) based out of Evansville Ind.They are an awesome agency and also work with other countries such as China and Guatamala.

Our son was 2 years old at the time and we also have 2 biological daughters.I would be happy to chat with you, about our adoption experience.

We adopted our son from China in December of 2005, and we're now hoping to travel this fall to bring our daughter home. We've used Harrah's AIM, which concentrates on China, for our adoptions. Please feel free to ask any questions. Both of our children have corrected special needs. Good luck!

Both of my children are adopted from Russia; my daughter came home in 2002 at 12 months of age and my son came home in 2006 at 11 months of age. We used Frank Adoption Center here in Raleigh and they are wonderful! They have monthly information sessions that are free to attend where you can get all your questions answered and the most up to date information. I also belong to an adoption group online where you can get a ton of information about adoptions from all the different countries from people who have or who are in the process of adopting from that country. The site is at forums.adoption.com.

Hello! My husband and I have 4 children and are also contemplating adoption. (probably from South America)
I don't have a whole lot of information, but I heard about this website that you may want to check out: www.shaohannahshope.org

I was interested in seeing your other responses, as well.
I think that adoption is a miraculous and life changing event for that special child and I wish you all the best!

God Bless you and your family,
B. A.

Love your profile blurp! ;) I have some great friends that are dealing with the Vietnamese adoptions currently. I am sure you know they have closed all adoptions at this time in that country. They have spent a lot of time and money not to mention mental energy in this situation, which may or may not come through.

However, I have heard that China is about 3-5 years and Ethiopia... (I think) has only a one year wait!! Another friend told me that, who had a successful adopted from China herself.

Sorry I can't be of more help with specifics, but just wanted to give you something to go on.

Blessings,
Amanda

For all considering international adoption please read up on adopting children who come from uncertain backgrounds. go to www.a4everfamily.org or read the books The Connected Child by Purvis or Attaching in Adoption by Deborah Gray. I have a beautiful daughter via international adoption and would not trade her for the world. That said I wish I had been more educated about the fact that I could not simply put this child on my hip and go with my usual mothering instincts (which were very loving and worked well with my other children, both bio) when the child comes to me with a past I am not certain about and has already had so much loss and change in her young life.

Best of Luck to all.

My only question for everyone is why not go for American children? I have taught in many countries for many years and I've also taught in the U.S. I believe that we should take care of our own first. These American kids need loving homes. Over the world, in my experience, parents take care of their own children. I taught in other countries because the money was so good and it was tax free and I had my two kids with me much of the time and they needed their education and a stable home too. I just believe there is a mystique in adopting a foreign child. The problem is, however, that we have needs here. Don't get me wrong, I send money to take care of the needy here and abroad but the U.S. needs to create loving homes for it's own. It starts with one family and grows. I've taught U.S. kids from orphanages and these kids are normal, loving, children. There have to be babies available too. With God's help and lots of prayer, all adoptions will create blessings. God bless all adoptive parents and kids.
