My son did the laundry (which I'm grateful for)and left a pen in some pants. How can we get out the ink stains that are in the dryer? My husband said to use nail polish remover and wipe it out. Any other suggestions?

So What Happened?

My son cleaned out the dryer with a little nail polish remover, then soap and water to clean and rinse and then aired it out with the door open. So far the house is still standing so it must have been fine!

go to the laundry aisle and buy CARBONAS ink remover (tiny bottles that are formulas specifically designed for different types of spills) I did the same thing in my whites load and I got 90% of the ink out of WHITE clothing that had been dried!

Hi S. I heard that hair spray is going at getting ink stain out of clothes. Try asking Heloise on the internet she gives good advice about alot of remedies for things. Contact a cancer survival group to help with your depression or someone who has had a similiar experience with cancer.. Thank the good Lord that you did survived. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Another vote for hairspray. Spray it on a paper towel then wipe the stain inside the dryer. (I would then wipe w/ clear water to prevent the hairpray from getting on your clothes.)If it is on the clothes, saturate the stain, soak in water and resaturate w/hairspray then wash in cold. Check washed clothes before drying or else the dryer will set the stain. If stain persists repeat w/ hairspray.

Good luck. I have done this before if you can't already tell. :-)

UGH my husband does this all the time too. We've used Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to great success. Not that we've had to repeat this process more than ...um...twice. Oops.

S.--my husband is a restaurant manager and this happens often in our household, especially when laundry is not done by me! Even worse, the ink has ended up on the inside of my washer too. I use a solution called Sol-u-mel, you may have heard it mentioned here on mamasource to be used for many other uses like carpet stains, gum, disinfectant, etc. It is a miracle solution! I love it because it really works and it is non-caustic, even my 7 year old can clean safely with this stuff! I get it through a company called Melaleuca. If you'd be interested in hearing more or learning how to shop safter, high-quality products like solumel, I'd be happy to talk to you. Email me at ____@____.com healthy, be happy, live life to the fullest and try not to cry! :)

I had the same thing happen with a pen! The nail polish remover works really well and does not scratch but make sure you wash the dryer with water and dry completely before using it again or the next batch of clothes will smell like the remover. Also, the smell gets strong in the room, so have a fan going and window opened.

There is the stuff called Krud Kutter you can get it at Sears Hardware or like a Home Depot. This I have found to be my miracle solution. I have gotten nail polish and RED cool aid out of my carpeting with it. I would be surprised it this does not work for you. Good luck!

Do you mean on the dryer itself or the clothes? I would check the manufacturer's website or 800 # before using a solvent inside the drum. (and of course make sure you don't use a solvent on a hot surface.)

For the clothes, I'd try rubbing alcohol or hairspray. Not acetone nail polish remover - it will melt synthetic fabrics.

I had the same thing happen (but husband in my case) and I used Goo-Gone. The Goo-Gone is greasy so I after that I wiped it all down with damp cloth with a bit of soap. It worked! I remember it took a while but now my husband definitely checks his pockets more thoroughly!
