Completely flattened?! Sounds like emergency to me. You don't want his blood supply to be lost for too long, he may lose his finger.

Yes. I would defintely take him to the doctor. If it is completely flattened it could possible be a broken bone. Is he able to bend his finger

I know if one of my kids finger was completely flattened I would rush over to the doctor.

Don't ever compromise on health and safety. When in doubt go to the Dr. and don't rely on a public forum for medical advice.

We are just moms simply giving input. I would not have waited at all, I would have gone straight to the Dr. If you have no or little insurance, go to one of the Doc in a Box places inside a pharmacy or something.

Take your son to the ER! It could have broken bones and needs to be seen about ASAP.

Yes, take him to the Doctor.
You need to know/see what damage was done beneath the surface.
What if it is broken or fractured?
Tendons? Ligaments?
You would not know that, just looking at it. A medical professional would... and would probably take x-rays.

I, when I was an older child, got my fingers stuck in the car door as it slammed shut... my fingers were flattened, bleeding, bruised, and fractured. It was very painful and yes, swollen.

yes I knwo a girl who had to have her daughters finger amputated from smashing it. and a smashed finger doesn't hurt that long and crying that long it may at least be broken

My husband slammed my daughters entire hand in the car door. No injury. We just made sure she could move it and use it. Within 15 minutes she was using it to drink a bottle of water. I put an ice pack on and she is fine...3 weeks later.

Poor little guy :( I agree, a trip to the doctor is probably in order. If it makes you feel any better, my 9 year old got his finger MUTILATED with a sledgehammer and it's fine, now. The bones were in pieces and I prayed that his finger wouldn't fall off in the sink as I ran water over it. Yeah, it was that bad. Amazingly, the surgeon said it didn't need surgery because kids bones will fuse themselves back together better than an adults. Sure enough, within a couple months, all the bones had "pieced" themselves back together and no surgery needed. He does have some limited range of motion and his finger is slightly irregular looking, but pretty good for such a bad injury - no nerves damaged or anything. Sooooo...... whatever the outcome, it may not be as bad as you imagine it could. Worth a look via x-ray, though. Good luck!!!
