My son and family are moving to Poway. I live in the S.F bay area and would like to purchase a grocery/supermarket gift card for them. How is the Albertsons store in the are and are prices better or comparable to Staters(?).

I am a big fan of Henry's Marketplace in Poway - excellent local produce and all-natural meat for reasonable prices.
get a Trader Joe's gift card.
We've got Vons, Ralph's, Trader Joe's, Albertsons, Stater Brothers, and Henry's Marketplace (parent company is called Wild Oats Marketplace).
Vons seems to be the most expensive in general to me. I don't care for the Stater Brothers in Poway. The produce and meat just don't look fresh to me although their prices are better.
But we have a bunch of food allergies in our family and eat mostly organic and gluten free, so I am kind of limited in where I shop. My favorite place to shop is Henry's Marketplace. There are two locations within 5 miles of each other (one in Poway and one in Rancho Bernardo). Occasionally I will go to the Trader Joe's in the Carmel Mountain Ranch area (about 5 minutes from Poway). But for what I buy, Henry's has the better selection and much better prices. Albertson's is my second favorite place to shop.
We've also got Target and Walmart (not the Superstores so not a whole lot of groceries at either store), but that might be another option for you to consider since they might need some "housewarming" stuff. Also there's 2 Costco's and 2 Home Depots.
I think Vons has much better deals than Albertsons or Ralphs, if you want a big supermarket. Henrys is smaller with more health food, but a lot of people like that.
