Info on Breastpumps

You may also be able to rent a pump from your hospital. I enjoyed the madella pump very much while I was breastfeeding while going to school. Don't try to go for more than a few hours without pumping though, it can get a little messy. LOL

Medella is awesome. Do you get WIC? They have ones that they can sign out to you but it also depends on the county you live in and their policy. good luck!

if you want you can go to Pill box (here in warsaw) and rent a reall good electric one.

i used an evenflo brand electric pump from wal-mart. it was about $40. i never had any problems with it. it may not be quite as powerfull as the other brands, but it's a lot less expensive. plus is small and easy to take around with you.

I have the Medela Pump in Style and it works great! I definitely recommend it! Don't know about he other one.

I also used the Medela and loved it. It really made pumping easy. I used it with both of my kids and pumped almost every day for 6 months with my son. I found mine used (the previous owner had nursed 4 kids for a year with the same pump), and I only had one minor thing go wrong (the power cord needed to be replaced - got it at Radio Shack), but the carrying case and space for ice packs, etc. made is so easy!! I would highly recommend it!!

If used doesn't scare you, you can check Ebay and save some money.

I loved the Medula pump, I can't say it enough, I love it. I got mine through a friend because I couldn't afford one of my own and it's lasted through 3 breastfeed babies, all who nursed well past 17 months, so it's durable and will alst through more babies. I did also buy a hand pump that I kept in the car that I believe was an Aveda or something like that. I didn't use it regularly, I kept it for when I was out and couldn't pump and needed some relief. I kept it with a little cooler and some bottles so I could store the milk if I was out, you just have to remember when you go out to take a little ice with you. Good luck!

I used a couple diff ones with no success until I had our last and he was in the NICU. They gave me a Medela (sp??)electric dual style and man did that thing do the trick. It was awesome. I know they are a little pricey, but I think you can rent them and each woman uses her own tubing etc. Good luck! I know you're getting very excited.

Medula Pump in Style is excellent!! I planned on going back to work and purchased it. I ended up staying at home but ended up using it quite a bit at first. I loved it!

I breastfed my son until 10 months, I went through 4 breast pumps. I would just say to spend the money. Buy a $250.00 breast pump. If you have a great supply and plan to only breastfeed and not suppliment I think the money will be well spent. I went through 2 medulas and 2 evenflows. I believe with this child, due in 9 weeks, I'm going to buy the $300.00 Medula. I don't know the names just the prices. Although, I have never heard of the Ameda and maybe I'll check that one out before I purchase. Good Luck.

I breastfed four kids for a total of almost 8 years.. ;) The Medela is a *fantastic* pump. I didn't like the Ameda, but I did have a little Avent Isis hand pump that I personally loved, it was gentler than the Ameda, in my experience.

I'd recommend looking into renting one if you have that option, too, just in case something happens that way you're not out the $$$.

I agree that the Medela is the best pump on the market. I would wait until after the baby is born to buy something like that though. Breast pumps are NOT returnable. If something happens and you can't breastfeed, then you are out the money. Most medical supply stores have pumps you can rent, that may be the way to go in the beginning. If you have WIC they also have pumps they will loan you at no charge. Are you working outside of the home? If you're not, you can probably get away with a hand pump. Medela makes a great one and it's pretty affordable. If you look at the website for Target and Babies R Us, they have reviews from consumers for most of the products. You may want to check that out too.

I have a Medela Pump In Style and LOVE IT. I tried others with my first and was unable to pump well or much of anything. If you really intend to nurse, and for more than a month, I HIGHLY suggest getting an electric pump. We have a medical supply store down the road that actually sells a medical grade pump in style that's a higher quality, but the same price - can't remember the name tho. It's a specialized limited edition sold by medical supply stores only. Be prepared to spend $300-$400, though it is REALLY worth it! I don't think I could have nursed this long without it, truly. (And - you can pump extra to keep in case you get sick!)

I love the Medela Pump In Style and you can get good prices in Ebay, new or used. I would wait until you see how much you might really need it. If it's just occasionally, you can always go cheap with a hand pump. If you are pumping every day or more, go electric.

i like the medals. and you will want to try to get eletric duals. my sister liked the advent hand pump that is manual. you can ask in the hostipal for a kit that has a hand pump in that is a kit for the dual eletric medal.

Hello! Congrats on your almost here newest little one!!! My baby just turned 1 last week and I breast fed him for about 8 months. Let me tell you that the Medela Pump in Style might be a little expensive but it is definitely worth it. I dont really have alot of extra money so at first I bought one of the hand-held pumps by First Years and it hurt so bad and it didn't really even work that well...but then my friend told me that she was using the Medela and loved it...so I ended up splurging and buying it because I really wanted to continue breastfeeding and it was so worth it. I am not sure if you work or not but it worked great to at work because some breast pumps can take an hour or so just to get 6 oz. but I only had to pump for about 15 minutes. I haven't heard much about the Ameda so I cant help you there but the Medela is a great choice....hope this helps!
