My 6 month old seems to have some kind of allergy from the weather. We went to trail of lights on sat, the wind was blowing and the weather was humid but not cold, and the next day her nose was very stuffy and she is sneezing w/watery eyes. My husband has allergies and his nose was bothering him on sun. also. She is still really stuffed up. Is there anything I can do for her? She just got over a sore throat and fever, also. What are the odds that she is sick AGAIN?!? She seems to be fine other than her nose....what do you think? I am doing the humidifier thing also...although I don't know if that will help at all for allergies. thanks!

What can I do next?

Humid air helps any stuffiness no matter what the cause. For a special need for humidity - you can put her in her car seat on the floor of the bathroom and run the shower on it's hottest setting, with the door closed. The bathroom will fill up with humid air. Let her breath that in well for a few minutes. Then, keep the humidifier going in the home to keep it up. You can also put Vicks on her chest.

Sounds like a cold. My son gets them very easily and the last one turned into a bad ear infection. When he is congested we elevate his bed and us the humidifier. We have also started bathing every night to get all germs off of him (advice from my boss who has three).

You son could be getting germs from your older son. Kids are best at sharing germs. This time a year wash hands regularly and toys.

Merry Christmas.

Basically it's not good to take tiny ones out when it's windy. That is wisdom passed on from experience from both my grandma and my mom. There's all kinds of stuff blowing around when it's windy. (Just think, someone is sick, spits on the ground, and then when it's dry the wind blows it all around) plus dust and everything else. My kids have always gotten a runny nose when it's really windy, so I didn't take them out when they were babies if that's how the weather was.

Hi A.
This happen to me too. She couldn't breath and wized alot. I found a medice called pedicare in a white box with red on it. It works great. It works so well that you have to ask for it to the pharmistist. They don't sale it out on the counters. It works I promise you. This was the only medicine that worked when she was an infant. She wasn't groggy or fussy or fustrated no more. Good luck. As they grow they still have those allegries. The next thing I used is clairton for children.

You might want to try Xango juice. It helps promote a good seasonal respiratory system. I have lots of friends with allergies that have had wonderful results with Xango. Your husband might like it too. It is safe for 6 month olds and tastes good, my grandchildren love it. I liked it so much, I became a Xango independent distributor and now earn extra $$ working from home. Check it out at www.tryxjuice.com and call me for a free sample at ###-###-####. It's worth a try, and Xango even offers a 30 day money back guarantee.

Fever means she is fighting an infection - somewhere. so even if her nose is running clear she prob. needs antibiotics to clear infection. Get her seen quick so you have a chance for a nice Christmas girl.

Everthing we BREATHE, EAT and DRINK are contaminated.
These are called Free Radicals, Our body gets "hit" more than 10,000 times per day from these free radicals, we are a society of sicker and sicker people.

Xanthones are powerful antioxidants, anti inflammatory, anti viral, www.pubmed.gov is the National Library of Medicines, enter xanthones on search and read the science of it.

We need to protect ourselves and our children,
another good website (these are not mine)
www.CosmeticsDatabase.com and www.NotJustAPrettyFAce.com
are two that you can enter your product and you can read how toxic our lotions, creams, makeup, etc are.

my grandkids would get sick with allergies and since we take these xanthones, they have not gotten sick in 3 yrs .

the humidifier is a good thing.
Just be careful of mold build-up.

Here is an example of an article from TIME Magazine,
on Inflammation and the Silent Killer'

"Inflammation is probably the background and driving force behind all major age-related diseases."~ Claudio Franceschi
Scientific Director, Italian National Research Center on Aging (INRCA) Silent Inflammation is the root cause of all acute and chronic diseases ... CANCER ... heart attacks ... Strokes ... DIABETES ... Hypertension, commonly referred to as "high blood pressure" ... Dementia, the most well-known type is Alzheimer's disease and others like ... sickle cell anemia ... MS ... Lupus, and other autoimmune diseases ... Parkinson's ... arthritis ... even such simple things as dental hygiene and the consequences of irritation in your mouth. While inflammation can affect all tissues in the body, it is the primary mechanism underpinning diseases which attack muscles, joints and connective tissue.INFLAMMATION. The body’s non-specific response to infection, trauma, radiation damage, allergen irritation, etc. is inflammation. Characterized by swelling, redness, heat and pain, most inflammation is short-lived and an important part of the healing process. However, too often inflammation does not shut off when it should and can continue for weeks, months, or years (chronic inflammation). When this occurs, the inflammation itself (which can be painless and therefore silent) becomes a serious health threat.Chronic inflammation has been implicated in the development of many health problems including cancer, arthritis, diabetes, skin disorders, heart disease, neurodegenerative diseases (such as MS, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s), lung disease, bowel disease (Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis), ulcers, gastritis, GERD, allergy, kidney failure and even psychiatric disorders like depression, autism and schizophrenia.
And this list is not complete because other illnesses have been shown to involve inflammatory states as greater or lesser causatory or exacerbating factors.Cathecin research in the area of inflammation shows:

Ability to chelate iron and copper, two metals frequently involved in the production of free radicals
Excellent antioxidant activity that even exceeds the antioxidant power of vitamin C
Xanthone research in the area of inflammation shows:

Antioxidant capability which exceeds that of vitamin E
All 43 mangosteen xanthones have antioxidant capability
The capability of blocking the most common inflammatory cascade (arachadonic acid to prostaglandin E2) at the genetic level (COX-2 blockade)

Antioxidant effect in an animal experiment that equaled the power of the drug dexamethasone and exceeded the effect of the drug Indomethacin

Hi, A.. One of my boys has allergies. You might be able to find some over the counter allergy medicine.I think they have Benadryl for babies. Also, talk to the pharmacist to make sure that it's okay for the baby. Usually, if you have a good pharmacist, they will point you in the right direction.

Most infant allergy medicine will say "under two ask a doctor", that is not because they can not have it, Its just because the dosage has to be carefully calculated and often requires switching form pounds to kilograms. My doctor gave my daughter Nasohist DM because she had terrible allergies as a baby. She also has suggested Zertec. I would call your doctor and ask her/him. My brother's Pediatrician told them to give their five month old Musinex. They said it would get rid of the mucus before it turned into an ear infection. Good luck! If it's a cold their may not be much you can do. The medication is not advised for babies and toddlers. I would also have her to sleep on an angle. The humidifier wont help with allergies but will help break up congestion. If your daughter has bad allergies and you husband does too you might want to invest in an air purifier. Good luck

One thing that comes to mind that took me years to figure out was that my entire household got sinus infections and sick every year when I put a real christmas tree in the house. Would you by any chance have a real tree? Mine were also allergic to the smoke/ashes etc, from the fireplace. When we moved to a house with no fireplace and got an artificial tree, no more seasonal sickness. I hate that but it was the problem for us.
Hope you can figure it out.

If it makes you feel any better my 51/2 month old has had nose congestion off and on since he was about 2 months old. Lately, with the congestion which has caused a cough I have been putting him in a steamy bathroom twice a day 15 minutes at a time, and that does clear him up and make him feel a lot better, plus it breaks up the chest congestion from the cough. I am going to bring him to his 6 month appt. to see if the dr. will recommend I bring him to a ear, nose and throat doctor. I truly believe my son has allergies also because some days are worse then others, and he never has a accompanying fever etc.

Hope this helps!

Just use little noses saline, use the bulb to clean out her nose a couple of times a day and call your pediatrician.

Hi A.,

There is no medicine you can give her all you can do is drain her nose w/little noses saline drops. Lay her down and put 2-3 drops in each nostril (one at a time) and then suction it out w/a bulb syringe. She's not gonna like it at all but that's pretty much all you can do for her. Babies are VERY delicate especially in these months where the Flu/Cold is very high. Any little wind will cause this. Well hope she get's better.

Benadryl worked like a charm for us...check with your doctor, but I think 1/4 to 1/2 tsp at that age.
