So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for your responses. She is beginning to feel better and I used saline drops, the bulb syringe and elevated her when she slept!

you can put one small drop of saline at the opening of the nasral and when she breaths in she will take in the saline. This will loosin the gunk up. Then if needed you can use a balb syringe "bugger sucker" to get the snot out.
Good luck

I used a combination of little noses and the nosefrida. It is awesome! I buy them for shower gifts now, the nosefrida will make your life easier.

When my son was that age, my dr. suggested using the "little noses" stuffy nose kit. It has a saline for baby noses and an aspirator. The booger-sucker thingy doesn't work very well though, so I just used the saline from the kit and the aspirator I got from the hospital. Target sells just the baby saline, too, in the Target brand a bit cheaper. :) I hope this helps. Good Luck! Congrats on the new baby!

Use a humidifier and saline nose drops, and put a pillow under the mattress at the head of her crib to give it a little incline. Those are really the only things you can do for such a little one.

If you're breastfeeding you could put a few drops of breast milk in each nostril. You can also use saline spray and a bulb syringe to suck out her snot.

My dd got a terrible cold when she was 6 wks old too. We gave her steam baths (just take her into the bathroom, in her carseat, with you when you shower or run hot hot water. It will help loosen up the mucus.

Also use saline nose drops and suck out her nasal passages, but not too often.

We also used the Vicks Vapor Plug in. I didn't want to put the rub on her being so little and the plug seemed to help.

Hope she feels better!

We had tried the suction bulb and my son hated it. A friend told me about the Nosefrieda. It works great and it didn't seem to bother him as much. I highly suggest it but I don't think it is available anywhere locally so you'll have to get it online. Otherwise we kept him a swing a lot that kept his head raised a little and that worked great too.

Hi K.! Your little one is too young to use Baby Vicks products but there is a saline drop called "Little Noses" that works wonders!
You can also elevate the head of the crib by putting books under the legs. YOu don't need much of an incline at all. It will be much easier for her to sleep.
Turn on your shower as hot as it will go and just sit in the steamy bathroom with your little one for about a half hour before bed.
Also, I TOTALLY agree with taking her to the chiropractor. It does work wonders for colds, ear infections, constipation, fussiness......any number of "infant ailments!".
I hope your baby feels better soon!

My son had a cronic stuffy nose when he was little. We put a rolled up blanket under the head of his mattress to elevate it and it did wonders. He slept so much better and wasn't as bad during the day. Good luck, hope this helps.

We always used vicks vapo rub for babies - put it on her chest and on the bottoms of her feet and cover them with socks. It seemed to always make our son much more comfortable when he couldn't breathe well. Good luck!

Put a humidifier in her room to run all night. Try to keep her upright as much as possible for drainage. Use the "snot sucker" for babies. They also have saline nose drops that can loosen things up too. You can put that J&J cold relief stuff in her bath too. I know, it's hard watching a stuffed-up baby suffer like that. Good luck!

Chiropractic care works wonders!!!!! We brought our kids from tiny on. Our son was only like 12 hours old the first time he went.

Massage in tiny circles right on the edge of each side of the nose as well. This gets everything moving in there.

Try putting something under her crib mattress to elevate it. That might help with sleeping. This is such a hard age and I do remember using a humidifier in their rooms, but I'm not sure how old they were at the time.

Good luck :)

Saline drops many times a day and a humidifier are both a God-send for little ones like that. I should have taken up stock in saline drops/spray for my son - he still uses it when he is stuffy instead of medicine.

You got a lot of good advice, and I agree with all of it, but I just had to add this one, because we have been dealing with this for so much of our 8-month-old's life. Check out the baby-vac (just google it). We still haven't made the big commitment and bought one, but we've had a few good laughs (make sure you check out the video demonstrations) and we are seriously thinking we will. If we had done it at the start (where you are now)it would have been SOOOO worth it by now. The nosefrida is along the same lines, and I see someone did recommend that.
