Infant's Bones Crack - Normal?

Has this happened to anyone else? Our 7 week old's joints crack when she moves them sometimes. I told our ped about it happening (it was her shoulder and happened three times when we had gone for our check up). She said that was okay. Now it is happening in other joints. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen. It is very weird to have someone so new, cracking like a big person!

What can I do next?

My daughter's left arm does that. It has cracked since she was born and all I could figure is that it was the rough trip down the birth canal. :) But she is fine....doesn't complain about it and I only hear it every now and then. Her doc also said it was ok...

This happened to my son as well. I noticed it most in his ankles. His doc also confirmed that this is normal. Apparently what we're hearing is tendons & ligaments shifting around. She told me that since a baby's musculature is still developing, it's all a normal part of the growth process. As long as she's not in pain or showing any sign of injury, it should be ok. Congratulations on your daughter's birth & good luck!

Yes. We've had three children that this happened to. It still happens to our 23 lb 12 month old. For us it always happened when picking the baby up out of the highchair. You's hear the popping, sometimes three or four pops. We were told it's ok/normal too.

Wow!! I had that happen with my little one too! My ped also said "It happens, and it's nothing to worry about" As long as your baby is not in pain when it happens...try not to worry. :]

Yes My Son's joints have always done cracked and popped.Sometimes he'll even cry afterwards like it hurts. All of his joints do it.He's 6 and 1/2 months now and i've talked to his ped about it 50 times he's not concerned but I am especially if it hurts him. I've always had bad knees that pop every time I bend down since I was a kid I hope I didn't pass bad joints off to my son.

Maybe you could take her to a chiropractor. sometimes infants need adjusting too. After 9 months in the womb their little bodies are subject to getting spinal subluxations. My 3 year old has been going once a month for almost 2 years now, and my Doctor has treated his 2 children since they were newborns. It is very safe and may ease any discomfort that she is experiencing, but too young to communicate to you. If you are not sure ask your pediatrician. I hope that this helps.

My daughter has been doing the same thing. She is now 6 months and it still happens. Mostly it is in her shoulders and elbow. When it first started to happen I freaked out thinking that I was hurting her or something, I still can't stand when it happens. I hope that they just grow out of it. I don't know why it happens.
