Infant Clothes at Consignment Sale

Does anyone know if infant clothes 0-12 months and 12-18 months sell at consignment sales? Is it worth tagging 400 items? Is it better to donate the clothes to charity? I've always donated my baby clothes in the past, but thought I would consider the option.

What can I do next?

I have always sold stuff at consignment but it was one where they priced the stuff. I did one that was a couple of days and they didn't sell for the prices I had hoped. The ones that sold were only $1-$2 each piece. Jeans, tops, dresses, etc...all cheaply priced.

I tried to consign once & it was a pain in the butt. I have recently joined a mom's exchange & my girls are now 9 & 15. We exchange all different items & if you don't have anything to exchange, so be it. We recently had a garage sale & what didn't sell got divided amongst those of us who needed it. Just from what I saw at that sale, baby clothing is a hot ticket item, whether it be a garage sale or online. Donating is always an option as well. Big Brothers/Big Sisters will come right to your home to pick up your donations. They will also take a ton of other items (all are listed on their website). Best of luck to you.

If you have a good consignment store in your area, try with about 20 pieces. Make sure they don't have stains. See how the owner treats you. Consigners are only as good as they treat the people who bring them business. If they are bad to you, they will go out of business.

The nice thing about consignment is that you are helping moms who want nice things but want to buy gently used. You are also helping a small business STAY in business. You can either take money or take credit for buying clothes for your own growing child.

I always had trouble finding boy clothes because little boys are SO h*** o* their clothes, LOL! There were always lots of little girl clothes...!

Don't give the consignment store all 400 items at once. That's too much. See how it goes and dole them out. I doubt the store would want that many items at once anyway.

If you have a good relationship with consignment, you'll make a lot more money than if you have a yard sale. People just won't pay much for clothes in yard sales...

Yes, they do sell there. Some have higher prices than others so you'll have to do your research on that. If you decide to donate, lots of women's shelters need this type of clothing so maybe consider that too.

Personally, if its a lot I wouldn't bother with the mom2mom type sales where you tag & log stuff in. (Although I have friends who make nice money doing that a few times per year.)
I prefer ( if you want to sell ) Once Upon A Child or other that pays you on the spot. Or I donate.

Actually, with those sizes, if its high end stuff, you'd make the most by putting it in eBay.

They do not sell well unless they are new with tags or high quality name brands in excellent condition. Most people get tons of infant stuff at their baby showers and they don't need those sizes. I had the best luck with 2T and up.

Consignment is only worth it to me on really high end items. The time investment isn't worth the payout, if you ask me.

Seasonal consignment sales get a lot of clothes in the infant sizes...but they DO sell if they are in good condition and priced right. If your consignment sale offers the option of discounting on the final day, that is a good way to get stuff to sell. Even at a low price, with that many items it can add up. However, you may want to split your stuff up and try maybe half of it. 400 clothing items is a lot...your consignment sale may even have a limit on the number of items per size that you can bring at a time. Toys sell very well at consignment sales, so if you have toys to sell that are in good condition that can add to your earnings. The tagging process can be a little time consuming but it can be worth it if you have good stuff to sell.

I don't know as I never attended a sale. But there is a store in Torrance on Torrance Blvd., just west of Prospect and east of PCH that takes stuff, and I have gotten some good stuff there. I think they just give credit, if that is something you are interested in.
Also, there are lots of groups popping up on facebook these days, I am on one called South Bay Treasure Hunt, as an alternative to craigslist, ebay, etc., where people sell used stuff. You have to know someone in the group to be added. Baby and kids stuff, especially clothes, usually sells fast!
Lastly, there is a GREAT place to donate baby and kids stuff in Lomita called Community's Child. Google them and see what they are about. They are amazing! And your stuff will be put to great use!

Why donate if you can sell? Otherwise, have a yard sale. Trade them with a momma who has an older and younger baby.

I have a booth for custom made clothing at a gently used clothing store. The owner is picky about what accepted. She has a store credit where you can purchase items up to the amount of the clothes or furniture that you brought in.

The items are priced from $2 on up. The quality and care of the items determines whether they are placed on the floor or donated. Sometimes worn clothing does get put in with the good things from the same home. Also, she has a sign on the door that items are from smoke free homes if not a cleaning fee will be charged. No brainer there.

So go visit and see how you are treated when you bring in a few items. You get to see what is being sold and whether you want to do it yourself or put it on eBay.
