Inexpensive Birthday Party Locations

I need suggestions for little known, INEXPENSIVE birthday party locations in and around SLC? We are not in a situation to hold a party where we live and can't afford most of the places I have researched. Our daughter is turning 1 on March 23rd and it's really important to us that we get the family together to celebrate but my husband is against holding it at someone else's home. We have about 25 family members that would be attending. Thanks for any advice you can give.

What can I do next?

Have you thought about setting up at a nearby park? We went to a party that a friend of mine threw at a park close to her house. It was great! They had a pirate themed party and the kids went on a treasure hunt and all kinds of things. There was plenty of room and it was easier than cleaning up your house. They had a cooler with drinks in it, but most everything was disposable. Paper cups, plates, napkins. They even did a pinata at the park. I don't know if this will work for you, but it's a thought.

Sandy city has parks with indoor pavilions you can reserve. You would be able to accomidate a lot of people. Plus have the convenience of a park for kids to play in (since it is getting warmer). You could do a pot luck to help ease some of the expense of feeding everyone, or just do a cake and ice cream party. You can stock up on party decorations at any dollar store. Your little girl is still young enough she doesn't care what you do she will just be excited having a party!

Wow, Easter Sunday! You could have a lot of fun with that. I know the West Valley Fitness Center has rooms you can reserve for about $25, (there may be a deposite that you get back if you leave the room clean) but if you wanted to use an outdoor pavillion, I think they are free. You could have an Easter Egg hunt. Ask the other family members to each bring a dozen eggs (plastic or real) and hide them. Put a cute bunny ears headband on your dd while she hunts for eggs. Take lots of pictures! You could get helium baloons and decorate them to look like Easter Eggs (or let the older kids decorate them). Costco has great cakes and they cost about the same for a half sheet as Smith's or Albertson's does for a quarter sheet. They have a really cute Bunny cake, too. What about reserving a church multi-purpose room or cultural hall? If you pick an off hours time you could go to a McDonalds or another place with a playland. Or, even reserve a banquet room at a restaurant. I guess it depends on what you are wanting to do. At one year old, maybe a play place isn't imortant for you dd. So will there be a lot of other kids? I would love to help brainstomr some more. Let me know if you want more input. Have fun with it!

Dear A.: This can be a time to check with your local City
Officials to see if a Park would be available, as it usually
has Slides, and other play equipment, weather permitting. Your
husband could have a simple cook out at the park, and I bet if
you asked the ladies in your neighborhood they would help you
pull this all together with a few simple and yet special gifts
for your little one. Gerber used to make a Cassette with lullaby songs on it with your childs name in the songs. My daughter Naomi has one and it was a little piece of Heaven to
help her feel good and relax, as she started out with Medical
Problems, and was flown by Life Flight to Primary Childrens
Medical Center where the Nurses decorated an I.V. poll as Santa Claus which meant the world to my Wife and I. You will
find that many financial responsibilities will almost overwhelm you at times, but where there is a will, The Lord
will help you through these times, and know that this will make your Relationship Grow even stronger. Just like Christmas
Time, little ones are more Happy with the boxes than the gifts
inside. You and your Sweetheart could find some very BRIGHT
paper and put Special little gifts that she will love like a
mirror she can see herself in. A soft Doll or Stuffed Animal
that she can fit in her hands, but also soft like cotton that
she can rub against her little face and enjoy. It's the simple
things in life that mean more than the lavish things. Also you
and your Sweetheart can open a Savings Account for her and put
a little away when you can which will add up quickly. If it does rain on her day, there are many churches that would allow
you to use their Cultural Hall or a room to accomodate your family and they have kitchens as well. Most importantly make
her day with Lots of Love from You and your Husband, for she
looks to you for her Happiness. Oh and Happy Birthday to the
little Birthday Girl.

Sincerely; C. R. - Sandy, Utah

I do not know what kind of party you have planned (quiet/rowdy, sit and talk/play tag...), but our family once used a room at the downtown library for a get-together. They are free to reserve. You could at least look into it. I believe some other local libraries have rooms they use for storytime or community meetings. Maybe you could use one of those. (Often they are off to the side and you can close the doors to minimize noise, etc.)

Some recreation centers may also have rooms to reserve. (I seem to remember the one on Evergreen avenue did, but I am not sure what the status is there since they are redoing it.) If you are not worried about the weather, maybe you could gather in a park pavilion.

If the weather is good, you may try the West Jordan City Park. It has the best playground in the state. It is located west behind the city building. The city building is about 7900 south Redwood Road. It may be busy though because it is Easter Sunday.
