Induced Labor - Park Ridge,NJ
Hello ladies,
I am 34 1/2 weeks pregnant now. This pregnancy has been a long haul. I have been through so much. It took us IVF to concieve and then it was a multiple pregnancy of triplets. We lost the twins in December and we are going to now be blessed with a baby boy!! I have been so sick since being told we were pregnant. I have been hospitalized several times and I am looking foward to having this baby. My OB would like me to have an amnio done at 37 weeks and then be induced. He said it would be better for baby and I to have him sooner than the 40 weeks. I am thinking about declining the amnio and waiting to be induced until 38 weeks. I had my daughter 3 years ago at 38 weeks without being induced she just came and my water broke and all. I had 5 hours of easy labor and I am hoping for the same with this little boy!
Has anyone been induced? How was it? Should I not mess with mother nature and just let it come naturally again?

Why the amnio? Technically 37 weeks is considered full term. Specially with IVF, the embryo is already a week or so when they transfer. I had IVF, and at 3 weeks my water broke, and had to be induced at that point to bring on the lbor. I'd if an amnio is necessary to have the 37 week induce, then wait till 38 weeks and do it without the amnio. Good luck

Go with your gut. My first 2 babies were induced after stalled labor and my last 2 babies were born naturally through the hypnobirthing method. Being induced was much harder for me. I think natural is best.

I might be late. I am nearing my due date, and I was "induced" this past monday. I was 3cm and about 50% effaced when I went in. Well, after HOURS of contractions and Pitocin to the max dose, I stalled out at 4cm and just over 50%. I was sent home, where I sit and wait and feel AWFUL. They would of broke my water but the baby wasnt engaged enough etc. Im sure this is no help, but really if the baby is OK and there is no medical emergency to evacuate them, I would try to hold off until 39-40 weeks if possible to even think about the induction. As obviously even after 39 weeks they can FAIL. Good luck to you.

I was induced 2 days early because they thought my dd would be large. I was not dilated or effaced, and am pretty sure she had not dropped either. But the doctor still insisted this was the right thing. In hindsight I wish that I had just let things happen naturally. She was not ready to be born yet and after many hours of labor (and trying to break my water 2x w/ no success) I wound up with a c-section.
With that said, it is different for everyone. Your body may respond very differently. But like others have said, go with your gut feeling. Research it now and do what you feel is best for you.

Why an amnio at 37 weeks? Are there specific health threats as to why your doc would want to induce? High blood pressure, diabetes, etc?
If there is no risk to carrying your baby until he is ready then I would advise against the induction. The longer a baby is in the womb, the better.
I had high blood pressure at 40 plus weeks with my first so I was induced. It was brutal. The pitocin made the contractions fast and furious and I had an epidural that wore off. A pain I never ever want to experience again.
My other 2 were not induced and much easier. No epidurals, no pitocin, just some serious narcotics. Sure it still hurt but not with the intensity that I had with the pitocin.
Don't mess with mother nature. He'll come when he is ready. Good luck to you. I wish you a happy delivery. You deserve it! Congrats!

I had to undergo an amnio & i honestly would've done w/out it! I was induced w/both of my pregnancies - w/my oldest daughter it took from 6:30am to 12:32am - but all that was involved was 10 mins of hard labor & 3 pushes. With my youngest daughter things took a bit longer. My mother-in-law kept telling me about how the first child u have is refered to as the pony & that the others are not as hard, but my delivery with my 2nd was definitely a little harder - plus my 2nd was 8lbs 4oz whereas my oldest was 6lbs even - both of them were early - sami my oldest was born at 36 wks & haley at 37 1/2 - the only reason they did the amnio was to check her lung development - she was born in 2003 and at the time that was the only way they could check it - one way of looking at it is that you could always opt to allow things continue naturally but in the same sense, if need be they could induce you. If there are concerns about the baby's health, then it is a different story but whatever you do, I'm sure it'll all work out. Good luck to you and that soon to be bundle of joy!

Hi Stefanie
My labor was induced two days after my daughter's due date, primarily because my placenta was becoming calcified. The induction was very simple - they gave a half of a pill of something (I think it was called Cytotec) and within about 1/2 an hour the labor pains were coming on... I got the pill at about 3am and had my daughter at 9am. I must say I felt a little bad about it (I remember telling the doctor that I felt like I was evicting my daughter from her house), but once I got on the monitor it so happened that I was already having contractions and didnt even know what they were !Personally, I would say don't bother with the amnio, and as long as the baby is moving around and the placenta is in good shape, your doctor talking about inducing is a bit premature.

I was not induced, but after 12 hours of labor with NOTHING (by choice), my giant 10 pounder would not budge...so they broke my water for me and gave me every drug known to mankind....they basically sped everything up...exactly what I did not want at all....in short, my labor was a complete disaster and I ended up with an emergency c-section. I felt as if I almost died....now my case could just be because of my body or just what happened to me. BUT I personaly would not let anyone mess with mother nature. I felt as though they rushed everything with me. But I could be completely wrong. They really gave me no explaination either why I bled so much and why I was so yellow afterwards, ect.... So I think everyone is different. If you feel like you should let nature takes it course, let it. BUT ONLY YOU KNOW YOUR BODY and your baby......what does your baby want??? :) ask him...
