Indoor Swimming Lessons-LaGrange/Brookfield Area????

I am looking to get my 4 yr old son in swim lessons before summer hits. The YMCA near us is closing (might already be closed..not sure). I heard some negative things about it anyway. I know the local high school have swim lessons in the summer..but was hoping to find something nearby that starts sooner. Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

The Y in Downers Grove (on 59th Street) is great. My son (who is almost 4) takes swimming lessons there.

The LaGrange Y program is actually really good - my 2 brothers and I all learned to swim there and my daughter is 2 and has been going for 1.5 years and can swim with only a floatation belt already. It's closing in mid-Feb, but they're looking to move the program to another pool in the area to keep offering classes. I don't think that's yet been resolved.

Other options, even for those of us who may need to switch b/c of the closing, are LifeTime fitness in Burr Ridge, the YMCA in Oak Park or the Indian Boundary YMCA in Downers Grove. Program details for the YMCAs are at ymcachgo.org under branch locations.

Another option is the Oak Brook Aquatic center (I've heard the facility is nice, though know nothing about the lessons, but they have a lot). The info starts on page 58 of this pdf link:

If I think or hear of anything else, I'll let you know!

Lifetime Fitness in Burr Ridge offers a variety of swim classes that are open to non-members too. We're taking our daughter who is less than a year there for lessons this spring.

If you want to come to River Forest...Concordia has a very good program.

Hello D.,

I've been taking my 14 month old to the PAV YMCA in Berwyn on Oak Park Avenue at 31st Street.. Its $70 for non-members and the next 7 week sessions start this week. Weds at 530 (I think) and Saturdays at 930 am (I'm positive on this one cause I already signed up for it ). Call or visit today as the classes usually fill up the last few days before classes start.

They just keep repeating the same class over and over all year long. Once he has a clue in the water there are more advanced classes available.

Have fun and take care,

K..

Hi D.! I live in Brookfield too. I have looked at other park districts in the area for indoor swim lessons - Lombard, Downers Grove, etc... By the way - our house is currently on the market, so if you know anyone looking to move to Brookfield, please email me. Nikki
