Hi Ladies. My husband and I are unfortunely in the market for a new vehicle due to the motor going out in our already to old, been putting off the purchase of a new one, car we already own. We are not interested buying new. We are looking for something under the 14,000 mark so we know our options are very broad. We have a 5 and a 4 year old girls, due with number 3 in December and a 1 year old black lab. My husband hunts and fishes so we would like something with towing capacity. What we are stuggling with is that I DO NOT want a mini-van. Yes I know everyone says they are so nice I that may be true, but I despise them:) I would really like a chrysler pacifica but my husband is not completely sold on them. So I was wondering what other families do in similar situations. Avoinding a mini-van, needing minimum of 6 seating capacity and not going totally huge into a gas gulping vehicle? Any advice appreciated!

What can I do next?

I have a Pontiac Torrent but that only seats 5. You could look into a Mazda CX-9 or a Saturn Outlook. They have 3 rows of seats and the back seat fold down in both of them. I have a Pontiac Torrent but that only seats 5. Hope this helps a bit.

I love my Honda Pilot as well and have also heard great things about the Toyota Highlander. Both seat 7 or 8 (my Pilot is 8). However, I think it might be hard to get a 3rd carseat in either if that's an issue for you. The dog fits great, too.

My husband works for Lupient Chevrolet in Bloomington. He's nice and wouldn't just try selling you anything. We live in Bloomington with our two sons Tommy and Deric.

We have a Chrysler Pacifica and love it! We also have 2 kids (4 & 1), a Black Lab/Golden Retriever mix, and I vowed long ago to NEVER own a minivan! The gas mileage is actually really good (it rivals my car). The only thing I would say is that if you are having a third child you would need the one with third row seating. We are only having 2 kids so we opted out of that. They have the capacity to tow things too and all around we have been completely pleased. Good luck!

I have 2 children in car seats and we just got a Honda Pilot. It has a 3rd row that folds down and can seat up to 8 people. It can also tow a boat. We love it so far and have fit 4 adults and 4 car seats in it. The versatility is really nice, and it is one of the safest SUV's out there. And Honda's are extremely reliable and easy to repair.

Have you considered a Tahoe or a Yukon? Many have the ability for the 7th seat in the back. You would have room for your dog, and the towing capacity is definitely there. You can get a used vehicle for a decent price, but you are looking at gas mileage of about 17-19 mpg. It's a comfortable ride.
