So What Happened?

Thank you for all the responses. I am going to ask for $40/day with ALL supplies being provided by the parent. I guess we will see what happens. :)

Where I"m from, LICENSED daycare providers get on average $25 to $30 a day. The DAYCARE PROVIDER supplies formula and food and all toys to play with and sleeping arrangements (pack n' play/crib). Parents supply diapers, wipes, extra set of clothes, etc.

I do in home care and charge $20/day. The parent provides diapers, ointment, formula and baby food. I provide the wipes and snacks/food for older children. The going rate for licensed daycare around here is $20-$25/day. An important thing to discuss is whether or not you get paid when the child isn't there on a scheduled day. I get paid if the parent cancels with less than 48 hours notice, and don't get paid if I cancel/take time off.

I'm so glad you asked this question because the answer seems to be all over the board! I'm am planning on doing this myself and I have so many questions. I am in Pittsburgh, and I have several friends that have used in home day care and they paid anywhere from $30 - $40 a day, and their kids were toddlers not babies! However, I seen posts from people that say $15 a day, which I think is way too low. Over they past few months there have been a few posts regarding home childcare, I would do a search and look at the responses...a few have been helpful. I will be watching to see what kinds of responses you get.

In my area it's $25-$30 per day for non-licensed daycare provider.

The normal I found is about $25 to $30 a day depending on how much experience you have with taking care of children.

Do you have a license? I think costs is important with child care as it relates to licensing and experience.

I paid $40 per day, it included meals and snacks, art projects and 2 hours of pre-school activities per day in Mountain House, CA. I think it would have been a bit less if my son was full time - he was 3 days a week 10 hours per day, I provided wipes, ointment and pull-ups. You should work out with the mom if she will provide all diapering supplies and food etc. so there's no misunderstanding.
I think since you are only watching 1 child instead of a full-sized daycare you can charge a little more - depending on how many hours per day you will have the baby.
Be sure to take an infant CPR class at your local fire department or YMCA!

I know my sitter charges $175 a week for infants. At day care centers, it is closer to $250 a week. Diapers, wipes, food, clothes, etc are all provided by the parent - at least until they can eat regular food and then it's provided sometimes. My sitter does breakfast and snacks, but not lunch. So we still pack that. She charges me $15 per day for my older two when they are out of school.

I did inhome childcare, but I did not do infants. I have friends who keep infants and charge 200-250 per week, so $ 40/50 per day. and parents provide EVERYTHING. It is crazy to think that $15-20 per day is enough for infant. I have friends who work in the infant rooms in the childcare, they have 10 babies in each room and only 2 providers. They tell me that all they can do it change/feed them all day long, babies get very little one on one time , parents pay $1200-1400 per months and still provide everything. Do not charge too little, I did and got burned out after a year.....it's not worth it, even if it's just for 2 days/week.

I'm located in St. Charles, MO and around here it's between $20 to $30 a day. With a minimum of $50 per week. Does she plan on claiming it on taxes? If so then keep inmind 1/3 of what you make a day will go towards taxes and it's your responsibilty to withold this for year end not hers as the Goverment sees you as self employed also if she is claiming check with an account on all the deductions you will also be able to claim. ie.. toys, utlitys, milage if you transport the child anywhere.

Hi B.--I see you've decided on $40 a day. I just wanted to say that I think that is a very reasonable cost for a newborn. Once the child gets older, if you think it's appropriate to charge less, I'd drop it to $30 a day. That's what I pay at a preschool for my son who is fully potty-trained. I wouldn't drop the price until that happens though. So, you've got a few years! ;)

Where I live you would typically pay (or charge) $35-40 per day for an infant at a licensed home daycare. Centers would charge more, especially for a part-time infant.

Around here, daily daycare costs between $25-$30 per day. When my daughter was going to an inhome daycare, I was paying $75/week for three full days.

Will you be watching her full days (as in 6-8 hours)?

Will you be providing diapers, formula, bottles, toys, etc?

Will your hours be set each week or change?

I think all of these factor into the price. I would think $25/day would be sufficient.

I pay $110 for a licensed provider to watch my 8 month old son full time M-F which broken down is $22 a day. Look at the going rate for your area before commiting to a set fee.

I'm in Kansas City and charge 120 per week regardless of the ages....but I see you are looking at 2 days. Some providers charge 25-35 per day. Some providers charge a flat 75 per week for part-time up to 3 days. You'll just have to decide what it's worth to you :)
