In First Trimester and Cannot Sleep at Night

I'm in my first trimester of pregnancy and since about a week before I found out I was pregnant I cannot sleep at night. When I do finally manage to fall asleep, it is very fitful and doesn't last very long. Do you guys have any suggestions on how you were able to sleep early on in pregnancy? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi S.,

I had/have the same problem! I just could not sleep at night no matter what I tried. I tried lots of pillows, different positions and nothing worked. The only thing that did work was cutting my sugar and caffiene intake (albetit I had one diet pepsi a day). I also made sure that I had a snack before going to bed. This seemed to help. I am now 15 weeks pregnant and sleeping is not a problem.

Hi S., Ask your doctor if you can take Melatonin. You can get it right in just about any store. I get mine in Walmart. I take it about a hour before going to bed and I sleep good. It does not knock you out and you do wake up so if your 2 year old should need you. Hope this is of some help.

HI- congratulations! One of the best things that I found to help me relax and fall asleep, was the celestial Seasonings sleepytime tea. It is all natural and works wonders. Good Luck!

Hi S. -- I found getting a little exercise always helped me. Just getting out for a walk gave me a boost --- helped keep the mood swings away, stretch the legs and help tire out my very energetic daughter, who was 2 at the time I was pregnant with her sister. Good luck!

you might want to ask your doctor about over-the-counter Unisom. Mine recommended I take it to help with nausea and as a bonus it is helping me sleep better.

Hello,S.
When I was preganant, what I did was I slept with a pillow between my legs. Sounds funny but it did help. Do you have a lot on your mind before bed? If so that could be the reason to. Try taking a nice warm bath and relax. Have your hubby masage your back. That works for me. Congrats on your Pregnacy and good luck hon with your sleep hope this helps.
