my six year old is constantly talking about what his friend showed him or taught him or told him....
for example his birthday is this wednesday and he wanted his party at a rollerskating ring (not a prob. all his friends have parties there) so we got him new rollerblades pads etc and gave them to him early so he would have time to practice....

hes practicing in the kitchen right now because of the rain and he keeps saying "last night my friend taught me how to go backwards" and when he was on his ds this morning he said "my friend says this is an awesome game"....

he says stuff like that all the time.....problem being its been just me and him home for the past 2 days and weve had no friends here....???
does it sound to u like he may have an imaginary friend brewin up here? anyone else have kids with pretend friends???
i dont get it....

hes always with other kids....we see my niece and nephew a few days a week and we watch another 8 year old girl everyday after her summer program until her parents get out of work....plus many more...on some days i have 8 kids here so its not like hes looking for interaction or anything that i know of.....

well i guess as long as the "new friend" isnt causing trouble and telling him to break windows, making dirty laundry or eatin us out of house and home its not a big deal....

What can I do next?

My son had a bunch of "friends". While it was highly entertaining for me to hear about them, it would have been nice if just ONE of them had instructed my son to clean up his toys more or played with him a little longer in the morning to let mama sleep in!

I had a lot of imaginary friends when I was little. I remember all of them :)

It's a good sign. He's probably really creative and smart!! (Your son, not the friend. I guess the friend could be, too...)

An imaginary friend is a sign of INTELLIGENCE. hehe. So, it's actually a GOOD thing. I wouldn't worry about it at all. So far all my kids have had imaginary friends. It doesn't mean they are being neglected somehow or that you are doing anything wrong. It's just something kids do, and if you look it up, it's a sign of intelligence...it's really nothing to be worried or upset about or to even view in any negative sort of way. When my kids have talked about their imaginary friends, I don't make a big deal out of it. I don't tell them the friend isn't real. I just react low key. Sometimes they tell me funny things that their friend did, and I laugh with them. It's totally a good thing, if anything.

my daughter has had many imaginary friends. It's a good thing. Your son has a huge imagination and so he is very smart! My daughter once had Nala (from the Lion King movie, lol!). She went everywhere with us. She never left her side. Until one day "Nala" jumped out of the car while we were driving (her imagination, I didn't say that) and she never came back. She also told me last night "mom, don't sit on my bed right there, your sitting on Jimmy". I said "who is Jimmy?". She said "you know, Jimmy neutron" (she has been watching that show cartoon lately). It was pretty funny actually because she got a little embaressed after she said it.
But, imaginary friends are totally normal and just means that your son has a big imagination!

my son's first imaginary friends appeared when he was about 3. he can talk about them so realistically that his daycare teacher through they were real people. He told them they came to our house every week to play cards.
He is now 6 and proudly says he has "hundreds" of imaginay friends. Lol. The have jobs (mostly firefighters) and families, including pets. Many of them are also superhereos and are part of his superhero team (he is Tae Kwon Do man... but don't tell him i told you all his secret lol). They all live in Reilly World... which is located just past Pluto. Also... in Reilly world HE is he imaginary friend because none his friend parents can see him
I personally think it shows terrific imagination. He is well aware that these are all imaginary. he is not so lost in this world he can communicate with us.
He recently started reading the Ricky Ricotta books by Dav Pilkey... and his bio states the started all this crazy, weird wonderful stories as a kid.... who knows some day you may all be reading the adventures of Tae Kwon Do man can say.... I knew his mom online.. ;-)

my niece had a lot of imaginary friends. her mom did too. she also has a lot of cousins that she saw and played with all the time. she was 4 at the time. she also had a red block toy that was imaginary. she would make us hold it while she wanted to play something or she had to use the bathroom. that was something i had never seen before. you actually had to sit and act like you were holding it in your hand.

My son came home from preschool last fall with an imaginary friend. His name is Imaginary Bob and he is shared by the entire preschool class. Odd? Mostly he is available for racing - bicycle or running races. Strangely enough Bob never wins. Recently Imaginary Pickle Pants joined the group. He apparently runs and rides his bike slower than Imaginary Bob. Neither one has ever come on vacation with us.

My daughter had a whole cast of imaginary friends from the time she was 2 1/2! Then it evolved into an imaginary world called Princess Land that she still writes stories about (she's 9 now). It is a sign of intelligence and creativity so don't worry too much about it. He will probably not talk about his imaginary friends with his "real" friends either, he really does know that the imaginary friends are not real, it's just fun for him to get lost in the fantasy and pretend it's all real.

I had one named Jimmy.

I would hold his hand.

My mom had to serve him a plate of food and kiss him goodnight.
Eventually "Jimmy went home."

My 3 year old has "Dr. Robin". He's black with red hair, red doctor clothes and he likes to stay on a particular tile in the hallway. Lol. Kids have them all the time. It's so normal!
