Hi mommas,
We are about to change our king size mattress for something firmer and that helps with my back problems.
If you know a good brand of mattress that you can recommend please feel free to throw in your two cents. I've been told that a super firm mattress is best so I'm willing to try one of those, I just don't know about which brands are better.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

I don't know personally, but I know two people that also swear by the Temperpedic mattress. It's pretty pricey, but it helped my friend's husband avoid back surgery so I think it's safe to say it's well worth its hefty price tag!! When we're ready for a new one, I'm almost 95% positive that is what we'll buy.

It is expensive, but we absolutely love our Sleep Number bed! My husband and I both sleep so much better and have less back, neck, and head aches and pains since we have had this (since February '03). It might be something worth investigating.

Good luck!

We bought a good firm Simmons. We were both having lower back aches in the morning on our softer matress. I think the firm matress has helped,. I did add a feather topper to it because it was a little too firm. That has been the best thing. It is soft on top but firm underneath.

One of the docs I work with has had back problems and even surgery for his back. He just bought a Tempur-Pedic mattress and swears it is the best thing he has ever done. He said it was the first time in like 20 years he has slept all the way through the night and felt great when he woke up.

We bought the tempurpedic (sp?) and it kind of grows on you. In fact, the other day my husband wanted to take off the sheets to see if it still "worked" (made the body imprint). It did, but it doesn't feel as comfy as when we first got it. You can have your dr write a prescription for it, and you can save the tax $ on it... I have a bad back and wouldn't say it's sooooooo great like everyone says.

As far as regular matresses gi, get a simmons. Their individual coil system is better for bad backs. I was also told that most of today's mattresses are so supportive, that the coil count matters much more than the firmness.

Hi! My hubby and I both have back problems, so we can really relate! I broke my back in a car accident in college. He has thrown out his back on numerous occassions and has back pain constantly. We have switched to a Tempur-pedic mattress. He absolutely loves it and swears by it. I think it's ok, but like squishy, comfy beds better. I'm sure the tempur-pedic is probably better for my back though. good luck!
