I'm in Pain!!!

We were in a boat accident in August. Since then, I have been having pain in my neck and between my shoulder blades, but mostly on my right side. I started going to a chiropractor about four weeks after the accident, he was adjusting me about every three days, but it is not helping, infact, it seems to be getting worse. Some nights, I need my husband to push me on my side so I can get up out of bed. I have never had any injury like this so I don't know what is normal pain, or if I should just suck it up. Or could it be something serious? Any mamas out there have any experience with neck/back pain from an accident?

What can I do next?

You may need physical therapy. I do both PT and chiro for back and neck issues and it really helps. Sometimes you need a little extra help when it comes to that part of the body.

I would get checked out by your Dr!!!!!! I am dealing with a neck issue right now. FOr years I had some neck pain and upper back/shoulder discomfort. Always gave it up to bad posture..carrying 20-30 extra pounds, hunching over the computer, sleeping funny...all of that.

Then about 6 weeks ago, at the health club doing a machine I have done for weeks, with my work out mania hubby right there, something went wonky. Heated pain shot from my neck down my left shoulder and I swear, a flame should have shot out my middle finger. Tears and pain. I gave it a few days rest, ibuprofen and the heating pad, but it got no better. I went to the Dr and she had me twist and bend my arms a few simple ways and said I needed an MRI ASAP. She suspected a disc issue and definately a pinched nerve (the tingling and middle finger flame thing)

I had the MRI that night and I have 2 bulging to the left side discs in my neck (C6 & C7) and a pinched nerve. I had a steroid shot 3 weeks ago and will have another next week. I didn't much like the first shot but after a week there was improvement, so I am hoping for more after the intital pain part.

But I was told absolutely NO manipulation...no chiro or massage of any kind, as that can make it way worse very very quickly, and most of what I have read supports that. I also suffer from severe migraines and had my check up with my neurologist a week ago. She said the same thing...NO chiro or massage...it will make it worse!

Please go see your family Dr to rule out a more serious injury. FOr me, this is my spine...my neck, we are talking about. I am doing my own research and trusting my team of Dr's. I hate everything about this...the pain, not being able to do normal activities like carrying grocery bags and laundry baskets (for the most part)...but I AM healing ..SLOWLY.

Good luck.

I think you need to see a doctor asap.
Did someone check your ribs?
Good luck!

Try a different chiropractor and definitely take a good calcium/magnesium supplement that does NOT contain calcium carbonate. Calcium is a natural painkiller and muscle relaxant. Also, after an accident, Ligaplex I from Standard Process heals the damaged ligaments that also cause pain when hypermobility exists.

I would get an xray and MRI asap. Our friend had back pain and ignored it for awhile and it slowly got worse and worse. A year later he's on disability. If I ever have any kind of back pain, I rest as much as possible and if it doesn't go away (so far for me it has luckily) I'd be getting an MRI and xray asap. This isn't an area to mess around with. I have no idea what's wrong but it could be a disc (as it turns our is the problem with our neighbor) or something else but at least see if they can tell via an MRI or xray. And then I would say rest it as much as possible. I wouldn't leave this to a chiropractor.

Did they do x-rays, MRI? Not all chiropractors are good ones. A good one will recommend you to an orthopedic if needed and suggest physical therapy with your adjustment. You may want to consider a different chiropractor and/or getting an orthopedics opinion.

I was in a head on collision in 1990. For four years I was in severe pain, not realizing it was from whiplash. It caused me migraines every day, and I could barely turn my neck. I was real young and didn't know any better, so didn't think to seek any medical advice, and I was terrified of chiropractors. One day, I got brave and went to one. The doctor took x-rays of my neck and told me that the top of my neck was going the opposite way that it was suppose to cause a pinched nerve in the back of my head and she could not believe I went four years with that pain.
It took a lot of manipulation and several months before I felt any relief. She said sometimes during the stages of manipulation, it could feel worse but the overall outcome will make me feel a lot better and it did. It took about four-five months before I felt better and I could end the treatment.

It may take a while for you to feel better. The chiropractor has to do the manipulation little by little and it does take time.

If you want, you can inquire with your chiropractor about accupuncture. Sorry, not sure how to spell that. :-) That along with the manipulation may speed up the process of you feeling better.

Hope you feel better soon. :-D
