Anyone have any experiences with Ikeas kitchens? They seem really nice especially for the price and warranty. But...you usually get what you pay for. Just wondering if anyone could share their experience. Thank you!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow! So many positive things said about their kitchens I don't see ANY reason not to get them! We are going to start seriously looking/ pricing them and I think I see a new kitchen in my future!!! Thanks so much for all the input!!

Friend is a landlord. Every property that needed a new kitchen they have done IKEA and she says they are easy to install. I have not installed one myself, but I doubt she'd keep doing it if they were terrible.

We have an Ikea kitchen. It was put in by the previous owners and is 6+ years old now. Pros: I love how innovative some of the cabinetry is when it comes to making use of space. They look really nice.
A couple of minor issues we have: the trim around the bottom of one of the floor cabinets keep falling off. We have a tall pull out cabinet that has a problem with the door becoming "warped" we end up either having to tighten or loosen the hardware from time to time. Might be my fault for overloading it weight wise, not sure.

We gutted our 1950's kitchen 7 1/2 years ago and installed an IKEA kitchen. We did not go top-of-the-line stuff from them, settling for the middle of the road line. (Particleboard with veneer vs solid wood fronts.)

WE LOVE OUR KITCHEN. Everyone who visits our house gushes about our kitchen and cabinetry. No one believes they came in flat boxes and we assemble and installed ourselves. It was very, very easy to install. And it's held up incredibly well - installed it when DS was 4 and he's now 11. He's a climber and has put them through every test possible. Looks as good as the day we bought it.

Features I like include the materials the drawers are made from. The bottom of all drawers appears to be coated in some sort of plastic/vinyl polymer that is very durable and easy to clean. There were also a lot more options for configuring our cabinets. On one side of our kitchen we have a counter length of 72 inches and directly opposit that is a 36 inch span. We selected 36 inch wide drawers for our lowers to fit these spaces. The drawers are great - nothing gets lost in the back of a cabinet, they are incredibly strong and hold the heaviest items I put in there (including DS using them as ladders) Each 36 inch lower has 2 big deep drawers on the bottom and 2 18 inch shallower drawers at the top. There isn't anything I don't have space for or doesn't fit. And they sell all sorts of cool dividers and organizational items that fit their drawers.

Any house that we move to in the future will get an ikea kitchen. I can't imagine living without my big drawers!

Unless your planning on solid wood cabinets from a top notch cabinet maker, ikea like the rest use pressboard or pine. It will itnot cared for well deteriorate quickly. However if you don't mind beimg meticulous on assembly making sure every corner is put together square and level, installed square and level and spills are cleaned right awayaand you don't overfill cabinetry. It is a good, stylish economical solution. It does come with a warranty so read the fine print before.. If you are amazing with measurement, measure your space 3 to 5 times to ensure accuracy.. If not then this is the time to pay them a little extra for a measure and planning so when these cabinets are yours it becomes what you envisioned and not a nightmare. Have fun creating.

I had one when we had a condo apt. We put it in. I absolutely loved how it looked. Never had a problem with it, though we never "beat it up" or anything.

We bought a house, put in an inexpensive line of Home Depot kitchen cabinets. I absolutely hate it. Pressed particle board and so poorly designed, thick and heavy (compared to IKEA). I am not even sure HD sells this anymore (14 years ago installed). My fingers get slammed accidentally in my current kitchen, and that never happened with the IKEA kitchen.

I met a couple who buys a lot of homes in SoCal, rehabs them, flips them and all they do is IKEA cabinets, even for their own home in Malibu.

If I could go back, I would definitely do IKEA again.

I haven't used IKEA for kitchen, but have bought a lot of furniture there: couch, chairs, bookcases, drawers, media center, play table and office furniture. I have found that because everything is so customizable, which is great, it also leads to a lot of headache when picking it up and assembling. Last time I used their picking, delivery and assembly service in Dallas and it was awesome. I had low expectations - was prepared for them missing pieces scratching things, etc but there were zero problems. With a kitchen using lots of components and needing to install it correctly, I would definitely get them to do it. Good luck.

I personally don't. Considering it.

We have two neighbors who bought IKEA kitchen cabinets. They love them.

My girlfriend has an IKEA kitchen. She has a big kitchen - 18 x 20 (that's big to me as mine is 15 x 15) and she has an IKEA bathroom vanity and mirror...she has had them for 7 years now - she bought them at first as a money saving move when she bought the house. She LOVES them.

Our kitchen would cost us about $4K, which compared to Home Depot or another place? We're looking at $10K, if not more. That's JUST for the cabinets.

I need to find out if they install or not. But yeah...after her experience and our neighbors....seriously considering it.

I'm reading this with interest because I love IKEA's styling and have had both good and bad luck with their products in the past.

Just for a little perspective, mine is a custom kitchen and we have to tighten the hardware on a regular basis. Otherwise, the screws get loose and the doors hang crooked. Plus, all the wood has to be wiped down with orange oil to keep the finish looking nice.

Next time... IKEA.

In our old house, we added the Ikea counters and cabinets to half of our kitchen and were really happy with it. My husband did it all himself, including cutting the countertops to the right size and installing all the pieces. The cabinets were really nice and the drawers rolled very smoothly. They looked nice too. I definitely recommend it if you're looking for an inexpensive way to upgrade your kitchen.

We just had an IKEA kitchen installed (they gave us a name of a contractor which we worked with) and love them. We love the look and also the functionality of the cabinets. Although the cabinets are easy to instal, I would suggest having them installed as 'things" always crop up along the way....eg uneven walls, floors etc. Good Luck!

Our Ikea kitchen has survived one move and is around 15 years old. It has help up well as far as functionality goes, though the enamel on the cabinets is starting to show wear in a few places. Still, for the price, I think we got a pretty good deal.
