I love the looks and prices of the IKEA kitchen cabinets and appliances. Anyone ever do a complete kitchen make-over using only IKEA or mostly IKEA? Before anyone mentions quality... I recommend they look at their quality check system and warranty - both are very good.

Our choices are mainly IKEA, Lowe's or Home Depot... there are a few hole in the wall places - but I've not looked into their quality checks or warranties.

So What Happened?

I was definitely already leaning in that direction - great to hear mostly good remarks about IKEA. My issue is the measuring and making sure everything fits. They offer a service to measure your house and do a mark up of the plan... but it's money. Lowe's and Home Depot will take your measurements and do a free mark up plan at their store. That is my only concern.

I have no idea what kind of quality IKEA is, however, a friend who built their home from the bottom up did an IKEA kitchen and they hate it! They're now saving up to start the kitchen over again.

I love, love, love IKEA. Their styles are amazing and the quality is great too on most of their products when put together right. Please be certain all of the items you are buying are assembled according to the instructions.

Lowe's and Home Depot looks so cookie cutter and typical to me. I did redo a kitchen in one of my apartments with some really great cabinets from Home Depot which look amazing and went with counter tops from Lowes but for the home I just sold. I went with IKEA. I miss that kitchen already but hubby said we are going to build a new one in our new home possibly over the summer.

Hi. My parents re-did their entire kitchen using everything from IKEA. My dad did the entire installation except the counter tops. With the money they saved they had granite countertops installed. The kitchen turned out wonderful. The cabinets are great. They have tons of storage with those pull out doors. My dad designed his own (giant island) using the floor cabinets all connected. They also used the legs that raise the cabinets off the floor for easy cleaning. Good luck....I think you would be very happy with the options IKEA has.

We did our entire kitchen from Ikea and we absolutely love it. We've had it nearly 5 years now and it looks as good as it did when it was new, all the hinges and draws are still as good as new, the lazy susan still spins, no problems.
The only con I would say to installing an Ikea kitchen is that you literally have to assemble every cabinet, it's quite time consuming when doing a whole kitchen. However, it is well worth the time spent for the money saved, and the quality is good.

IKEA is great in terms of quality: their cabinets are industry-standard 3/4" thickness and they use quality Blum hinges and drawer slides. They also offer the option of not buying their own doors - you can get them made custom if you don't like IKEA's styles. Our company, Semihandmade, can ship IKEA doors, panels and drawer faces anywhere in the world, all pre-drilled, and also usable on old IKEA cabinets. Give us a look....

My neighbor built a brand new 350000 house using all Ikea. The realtor has gotten 1 person to view it besides the realtors who work with the listing agent. We live in a country club neighborhood and it is only a year old.

I bought Kraftmaid for my previous house and we had custom done in the new house. We found out that if you call builders and ask who does their cabinets, you can redo a kitchen much cheaper than lowes.

I am a professional interior designer. While i don't know any designers who use Ikea on project, I do know many designers who use them personally. They offer a lot of style for not a lot of money. They are a good bang for your buck. The question to ask yourself is, do you have a kitchen that is a good for modular size cabinets? Some kitchens are difficult and have weird angles and require custom or semi custom cabinetry. Can you hang modular kitchen cabinets without having awkward gaps? If your kitchen is straight forward and you like the looks, and thats the price point you need to be at- they are fine.

My girlfriend redid whole kitchen with IKEA. Looks fabulous. The cabinetry is so modern and sleek, not outrageous and she has had the kitchen for 11 years, still looks gorgeous.
