Ideas for Winter....

I was wondering if anyone had some ideas for toddlers to keep them busy during the winter. My twins are 20 months and they love to be outside, which I will do some this winter. i know there are toddler tuesdays at the mall of america and Eden Praire has a play area, but just was wondering if anyone knew of anything else. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

St. Paul Public Libraries have passes to the Children's Museum (they're called Passport to play) for free. Awesome children's play area!!

Also for library story time, visit this sight for times, locations, and sign up information http://www.hclib.org/BirthTo6/Storytimes.cfm
The Hopkins library and St. Louis Park have fun toy play time after stories are done. Also, the SLP one requires no sign-up!

Edinborough park has a climbing gym (but lots of it is kin of big for toddlers), gym with balls, and a jumparoo. Season passes are $100 per year or $5.50 per visit. Kind of spendy.

Also, Chaska Community Center has a great pool area for kids, but again really spendy for season passes or daily. They also have a toddler play area.

Hi A., I am a Members activities instructor at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville and I instruct a tornado toddler class. It is one day a week for 7 weeks. It is a great way to get out meet new moms and have your twins have a fun learning experience. If you are interested let me know and I will give you more details. You do not need to be a memeber to enjoy this class.

Hi there,
You have to try the Edinborough indoor park and the Chaska community center has a wonderful toddler pool set up.
My boys loved that one.
Happy winter,
L.

I also recommend the library and community center.

In addition, you may want to look into an indoor swing. There is a great one called the Rainy Day Indoor Playground, but that can be pricey. I have a friend who mounted eyehooks to the beams in her garage and used the much cheaper Little Tikes-type swings instead. She sometimes has to put the kids in coats, but it's a great thing to do with small children that's easy and doesn't involve cleaning off snow later. Plus it gets you (sort of) out of the house for a little while.

And a really simple one that I used to forget all the time - put on some music and let them dance. There are a million kids' CDs out there, but any peppy music you already have will probably do just fine.

I have three kids, 4, 3, and 1. We visit the library on at least a weekly basis. Most of the libraries have story times geared toward younger children if you want something more structured. Also, we hav become avid users of the Museum Pass which is also available through the library. You just check out a card that grants you admission to all sorts of cool places around the area. Absolutely cool and it's FREE!!! Your local community center may have special toddler activity times as well.

And on those days when the kids just need to run or ride their bigwheels, I dress them in some warmer clothes and let them have a blast in the garage. Believe me, it was a lifesaver last winter with one tiny girls and two very active boys.

I'm a divorced/single mom of two, Austin 2.5 & Natalie 3 months. Some places we go are the indoor place center at Edenborough in Edina off of York and 494, "My gym" in Eden Prairie (www.my-gym.com), "JW Tumbles" in the galleria in Edina (www.jwtumbles.com). Their are lots of ideas in the Twin Cities Kids Directory (www.tckidsdirectory.com) Hope this helps out for winter.

MN Children's Museum in St. Paul is Awesome

MOA the rides my daughter had season pass when she was a toddler/preschooler and we went all the time

Pump it Up is a place to have birthday parties it's huge inflatables and jumpers and during the week they have hourly times for kids not in school yet.

When my daughter was in preschool we did the ymca memberships and lived there. She did swim lessons, tumbling, I exercised and she went to their daycare.

The MN Zoo is a great place. It has hours of indoor fun. If you purchase a yearly pass and use it your really get a great value for your money. You can also check out the walking clubs at the Malls. The Burnsville Center has one on Tuesday's at 9:30 am and it is free! Many of the Mom's stay and play with the kids after class (as well as get some shopping in). Good luck! Finding a routine may be the best thing for your twins!
