Ideas for 'Theme's for in Indoors Toddler Playgroup ?

Hi - 15 mom's and kids have just started a new playgroup at a Community Ctr. We have a great sized space but not a lot of money. The kid's are mostly 2-3.5yrs old. Hoping to brain storm a few ideas for different 'theme's to use each week e.g tents, music, balls, making cubby houses with sheets and tables etc. Hoping other mom's might have a few good ideas to share. Thanks ! M.

What can I do next?

You can introduce some imagination days...

Space: Have them imagine and act out: getting in a rocket, blasting off to moon, putting on space suit, walking on moon.

Playing at the beach/swimming in ocean, building sand castles

Modes of transportation: riding a horse, driving a car, rowing boats, hooking up to each other as a train, flying and airplane, etc.

You could have a camping theme one week and make smores, read books about camping, use flashlights for a jungle hunt (point the flashlight at animal pictures, sing campfire songs, etc.
You could also have a western theme one week- give each child a bandana, decorate wagon wheels, sing western songs, play games - pin the tail on the horse, etc.
There are lots of themes--look at some educational material websites and get some ideas and then make your own stuff.

Do you remember back in the day when kindergarten was still fun & you had the little centers to go to? There was the block center, the cars & trucks center, the house center, ect.... That's what I would do, bc you could go to a local thrift store and buy those things for dirt cheap, then they are permanent fixtures that the kids would love to do everyday @ "center time". Then you can break up each day with the other things like arts & crafts, music, bubbles, ect..... Have Fun!

You can do a fitness kind of day. Have a hopscotch mat down... they will love to hop around... get some balls and play catch, get a big blanket and do like the parachute kind of thing where you put the ball in the middle and make it rise up in the air.

Arts... finger painting, drawing with marker and crayons... being able to cut with blunt scissors, making art out of white paper plates.

Blow up balloons and make silly faces on them and play bounce the balloon back and forth.

Dance day... where music is being played and they all wiggle and giggle together.
