Ideas for Recipes to Freeze for Quick Meals After Baby Is Born
I am scheduled for a c-section next Wednesday and have a 9 year old and husband who will be at home while I am in the hospital. And of course I will have the recovery after the c-section where I won't feel like doing much! I was hoping to get some ideas or recipes that I could prepare before hand and freeze to take out and cook or just heat up when I get home. I don't want my boys to just live on cereal and pizza while I am in the hospital and don't want to feel overwhelmed when I get home and feel like I have to cook up a big meal as soon as I get home! Any suggestions or recipes would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I would go to entrees made easy or anotherr meal prep kitchen. They are usually great food and pretty healthy if you choose the correct meals. You go prepare the meals and then freeze them at home and once you are ready to cook just put them in the oven. Their website is www.entreesmadeeasy.com
good luck!

Hi there,
What I did before (c section 4 mos. ago)and still do it now is I shop at Costco for some quick fix meal entrees. all you need to do is put it in the oven and then enjoy a close to home cooked meal.
Also I take Reliv then and now - makes life easier, less pain, faster recovery and more energy. check their website www.reliv.com for more info or email me
i wish you good luck and fast speedy recovery

Great idea! Wish I thought of that when my daughter was born. You can freeze just about anything...I'm notorious for cooking huge meals, so I often freeze leftovers so nothing goes to waste. One thing I do suggest is breaking up the meals into smaller portions and putting into freezer bags with the date on it. That way its so much easier to just pop on a plate and into the microwave...alot quicker too!
One thing I did do when my daughter was born was using a crockpot. GOOD INVESTMENT!!! It was so easy to just put all the ingredients in and then later that night have a nice homecooked meal. Love the crockpot...its still my best friend LOL!
Good luck and congrats on the new bundle of joy! :)

One of our favorites is chili, chicken noodle soup, ham & bean soup, veggir soup or any other favorite. You can cook up a pot (or two or three) ahead of time and then freeze it in your serving bowls. Once the lump of soup is frozen you take them out of your serving bowls and place the frozen lumps in freezer bags. When it is time to eat you just grab a lump, put it in the serving bowl and toss it in the microwave. Makes for an easy tasty home-cooked meal!
I have also visited Entrees Made Easy... which is also a great option, a bit more expensive that home-cooked, but definately easier than grocery shopping and then cooking. May be a little more than your guys are willing to do to have a good meal. I know it is more than mine can handle. It'd be good for when you are ready to return to the kitchen when time is limited with a new baby!
Good Luck with the new addition! J. @ Every Mother and Child.com

There is a My Girl Friend's Kitchen in Mesa (Greenfield and Brown) that you could make some meals to freeze or you could have them make the meals and you pick them up. The meals are between $19 and $22 depending on how many you order. I love them! My life has been so much easier having found them. This would save you the time of shopping for ingredients and spending the time at home chopping, cutting, slicing, etc. It's so worth it!

Pasta freezes well. You could make a big batch of spaghetti or lasagna and freeze that. I also like to make sort of a macaroni and cheese with vegetables, add cottage cheese, and bake it.
Soup and chili are other dishes that freeze well.
Another option is to stock up on healthy frozen meals, like maybe from Trader Joe's.

Hi R.,
Like another mom said, a meal assembly place is great. We love Super Suppers on Power and Brown. They offer free assembly so you don't even have to go in and make them, just call or go online. They deliver too if you are within 5miles, the price range for the meals is 18-22 depending how many you get. We have a family of 3 so we split the meals in half so it is actually like 9-11 per meal with them split. The meals are really easy to cook too. My husband even does them when I am at work :) Congratulations and good luck with your new little one!

The book "30 day Gourmet" is a whole tutorial on freezer meals, recipes included. It has tips for storage, planning, and shopping for your cooking day as well. They also have a website: www.30daygourmet.com
My personal exprience is that soups, chilis, and lasagnas, and casseroles are great meals to prepare ahead of time for the post-partum cooking. Just thaw and bake/slow-cook for 1 hour!
