It depends on what you like.
I hope to adopt this year. We want a girl.
If we get a girl, I will do a very very light pink on all but one wall. On the odd wall, I am going to do black toile wall paper. So the room colors will be pink/white/black. A Paris theme, if you will...
You can do almost anything these days! It's amazing.
go to www.poshtots.com or some posh sites. I can't personally afford most things on these sites, BUT I can gain ideas from them.
GOOD LUCK

Pottery Barn Kids catalog is a good idea source. I got the idea to paint stripes in my daughter's room from them.

You know, I'm a child photographer, and when I'm looking for color ideas (either for photo books or greeting cards, or whatever) I look at on-line catalogs of stores that I like. For instance, I know that Crate & Barrel will always have beautiful & interesting color combinations. If you look at catalogs of places whose style you like--even if you can't afford to buy things there--you will see lots of color ideas & other decor inspirations that will be perfect for your sweet little girl's room!
My own personal favorite color combo for girls: brown, sage, and pink--with cream accents...LOVE it! Maybe someday I'll get the opportunity to decorate that way!

Try the Sherwin Williams website. You can virtually pick a room from a series of templates that has furniture similar to what you want or have and then you click on paint swatches and it paints the room that color. It's lots of fun!

I'd pick out the bedding first and then work from that so it all coordinates.
For my daughters room her bedding is the leaps a lot theme from Babies R Us that is purple, green and yellow. We painted her walls a green that looks like pistachio or mint ice cream, used a wallpaper border that coordinated with the bedding and then added purple curtains. We got letters that spelled her name, painted them purple and then cut out stars from the remaining wallpaper border and attached them to the letters. It's not pink and girly which I love.
