Ideas for Moms' Retreat

Looking for ideas for an overnight retreat in the Dallas area for about 15-20 women. Some would stay all night, some might not. I won't set any guidelines for what we are looking for (except that it not be super expensive!) because I want to see what kind of creative things you send my way with no guidelines to limit you!

What can I do next?

Hi R.,

Is everyone chipping in? I would say get a room at Hotel ZaZa in downtown. www.hotelzaza.com They have this "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" package. If everyone is chipping in it would be about $45-90 each if all 15-20 women participate. Who sleeps at slumber parties anyway? :) The rooms are super nice! Check it out! I copied this from the website:

Calling all ladies! This package is developed just for you and your friends, sisters, mom or bachelorette co-conspirators. No boys allowed!

Your package includes:

Walk of Shame Kit – One kit per guest
Kit includes: True lipstick, ZaZa thong, ZaZa tank, toothbrush/toothpaste/floss, and small bottle Voss water

50-minute “Rock Star” massage, one massage per guest
Premium-brand cocktails in Dragonfly or Urban Oasis, two cocktails per guest
Complimentary valet parking for each guest

The possibilities are endless but depend mostly on what you want to do. Is this a reunion of sorts? Do you mainly want to just talk and visit one another or do you want to pile in your cars and go somewhere? I have done this with cousins (though not so many) and we rented a nice hotel suite with plenty of seating for everyone. You can bring a chick-flck DVD or rent a movie from the hotel cable. You can do room service if available or have just about anything delivered. You could even do potluck take-out. Not only do you keep expenses down, but you don't have the hassle of such a huge party at a restaurant. But if you want to be out and about--I suggest someplace like the Arboretum where you can still talk and have fun. You can even rent a small bus/van so someone else can do the driving. Whatever you do, remind everyone to bring photos of "the old days" so you can all have a good laugh. And have fun!

I took my Ladies Group at church to Mt. Lebonon Baptist Encampment. It wasn't very expensive and we all stayed in a lodge. It had nice bunkbeds on each side of a common room and kitchen in the middle. A separate bed and bath for the leader or whoever. Some came at night and went home, some stayed all night.

Granbury is a cute town near the Metroplex. There's a place called the Nutthouse (named after Nutt family). They have a whole level with rooms and a central den to vist. You can rent the whole top level for your group. The town square is adorable with lots of crafty shops. There's also a place to see plays. I loved going several years back with some teachers.

My mom and our crew of "girls nighters" did this last summer for our annual retreat (aptly named "Goddess retreat"). We had a blast. There were 11 of us and 6 spent the night. I highly recommend...

Try the Gaylord hotel in Grapevine. I like the indoor garden, the grapevine mall, and just sitting and drinking tea in the garden. Somewhere in the book "The view from Saturday" suggested that the end of civilization started when people stopped drinking tea.

Hi R.,
Our women's group at church has used Lake Lavon Baptist Camp for the last 6 years. They have several cabins to suit various size groups. It is rustic but beautiful and peaceful by Lake Lavon. It is a dormitory style camp so if you want a concierge it is the wrong place to go. If you all want to just be together as women having fun, playing games, talking and hanging out... this might be your place. It is around $30 per person per day/night and that does include meals.
