My 12 y.o. dd needs a hippo costume. Any ideas on what to use? I don't have a lot of money or and I don't really sew. Help, ladies!

What can I do next?

I like the first idea too but would use card board for the head. Paint it gray. I would also google for ideas and maybe even patterns. Just google elephant costumes.

Ok, this is brainstorming so you may have to modify. Large gray tee shirt (preferably long sleeves) and add stuffing. Gray pants, too. You can use felt and a hot glue gun to make shoe and hand coverings. Google hippo costume to see how it should look.
Now the head, hmmm...
Felt and hot glue gun to make a hood like head covering and add eyes. You should experiment with paper first to make a pattern you can use on the felt.

I like M. D's idea, but maybe paper mache for the head.

These are all good ideas. Does the face have to be covered? My go-to costume for my son is a hooded sweatsuit. You could shape around the hood of the sweatshirt and the face (your child's) could be coming out of the opening of the mouth. Do you get a picture of what I'm thinking of?
