Ideas for 1St Birthday That Falls in the Middle of Labor Day Weekend

Okay, so 'the lil girl' (that's what we call her) was born on my 42nd birthday, August 31. I never minded being on a camping trip and blowing out candles, I always thought it was kinda cool -- but NOT acceptable for her first birthday. I want to have a real party for her (NOT at a pizza place with a million other kids' parties, I want a private location just for her), but many of our friends/family will be camping that weekend. I was thinking about having something at a small park or something ON LABOR DAY, which falls this year on the day after her (our) birthday, but not sure if people will be up to it after camping or whatever... I know it's early but it's bugging me so I wanted to ask for your ideas.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well it took this long for us to figure out what to do, but we decided to have a bbq in the park the week after. We're very excited, the invites just went out! Thanks all!

You don't have to be so formal about it that the party has to be exactly on or really close to the actual birthday, she won't know the difference anyway. If you are concerned about people being able to attend then make it two or three weeks later or sometime when most of the people you want can attend.

J.,
I would wait one more weekend, and do it then. I am a product of many camping birthdays as well, (sept 6) and I was not fond of it at all. Most of my friends were out of town instead of at the party. This way more people will be able to attend.\

It's never too early to plan the 1st birthday! It's a special day! You may want to plan it the weekend before, just to ensure all your guests will be available. And whether you do it Labor Day weekend or another, BBQ's are always fun. We had one when one of my little girls turned 1. I used pink tissue paper and pink construction paper to put together a chef's hat, which I took pictures of her in sitting on the ground with ketchup and mustard and bbq sauce bottles all around her. I had invitatins made with that picture. She'll enjoy anything you do, but to make it extra fun maybe pick up a bubble machine...you can find them cheap at Target or Walmart. Babies LOVE bubbles and it's even better when you don't have stand there and blow them all day!

Have fun!

Planning early is best, even if the Labor Day Weekend is a holiday when people leave for the weekend. Perhaps you could have the party for both you and your 1 yr old the weekend prior to Labor Day? That way no friends or family would miss the big event. Or if on that weekend, if you go camping, you could reserve space at a restaurant for family and friends for a late lunch or dinner and it would be great! At the park, you could have a bbq or potluck, which would be great as well. All you would have to do is buy the table cloth and table settings & drinks and it would be a great double celebration. Babies at 1 year old don't remember too much, but they have just as much fun as you on your birthday opening presents and getting attention from your party guests. You can make the most out of any child's birthday, they'll love everything you do on that day...so will you!
