I am having my first child in March! I have been going to University Gynegologic Consultants since July. The Problem is all of the Doctors and a lot of the staff are all leaving. I know I want to deliver at Prentice, I just need a good OB/GYN who delivers there!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

What can I do next?

I too am a member of the University Gynecologic Consultants Group and I am under the impression that the doctors that are leaving will still be delivering at Prentice. They are just changing practices. Have you been seeing one of the doctors that are leaving? Did they, not their staff, actually tell you that they can not deliver at Prentice?

I really liked the Nurse Midwife group at Northwestern, 680 Lakeshore. I am an older mom (37) and they made me feel completely comfortable and like a future mom i.e. explained things clearly to me but the visits did not feel "clinical only". If there was a problem, they would bring in one of the OB/GYNs on call.

I can't believe I considered NMW, but now that I had my first child that way, I will definitely do it again.

Carol Hirschfield, Amy Willets are just two of the group.

I have been using Tim Garvey at Northwestern. His office is 680 North Shore Drive. He is wonderful and the staff there are wonderful too. I used Illinois Masonic for my first child and I hated it there, so I found Tim Garvey as a referal from SEVERAL mothers on the Northside Parent Association. If you need another more information on Dr. Garvey, please email me at ____@____.com

I delivered with my first at Prentice. I used Carol Hirshfield and Amy Willets (sp?). They belong to a group of OB/GYN and midwives and they were terrific.

If you are going to deliver at Prentice, I would strongly recommend preparing a birth plan that you share with the nurses and hospital staff, and your OB/GYN or midwife (CNM). Prentice has very high rates of cesearean, and I was overmedicated during my delivery.

I like my doctor: David Baum. His office is on 30N Michigan ave ste 607. ###-###-####. He also has an office in Northbrook. I delivered at Prentice and it wasn't nearly as bad as I imagined. I am the biggest scaredy cat when it comes to doctors, hospitals, needles... Dr. Baum really calms me down. I think that you need to find a doctor who fits your personality. Also, 680 N. Lake Shore Dr. I hear is good. I was recommended Kim McMahon. I went to see her and she seemed very nice, professional, thorough. The office is great, it seems like an upscale practice.

Good luck! Congratulations!!!

I have had great care at The Womens Group of Northwestern. I also have friends that go there. I went thru two deliveries at Prentice and anticipate giving birth to one more in the future at the brand new Prentice. They have several doctors on staff ... all women - check out their webpage. If you have any question I can answer, let me know.

I noticed one of the responses mentioned Mia Norlin - DO NOT go to her! She is horrible. I had a late miscarriage while she was my doctor & she told me nothing was wrong. I went on to have 2 more late losses. She was arrogant & did not take the necessary precautions for my future pregnancies. The other doctors in her practice did not handle the situation well either.

The Womens Group of Northwestern is great. They are at 680 N Lake Shore Drive. I recommend Dr. Lui, Dr. Leavit, and Dr. Choi--but they are all great and they make it a point that you meet them all so you'll know whomever is there when you deliver. They are also very good and checking in frequently once you're admitted and following all your wishes. Good luck!

J.,
My GYN/OB is THE BEST. Her name is Dr. Shamim Patel and she is at Superior OB/GYN. The office number is: ###-###-####. Located right near the hospital, I just don't have access to the address right now. I became a new patient of hers when I found out I was pregnant and also had a terrible case of the flu. Her care throughout the pregnancy was excellent. There are only two other dr.'s in the practice but, she delivered my baby. Post-natal care and follow-up have also been excellent. I highly reccommend her and she delivers at Prentice...a great place to deliver, as well.
Good Luck,
J.

Dr. Javier Fajardo is at Prentice. His office is in the Playboy building (680 N Lake Shore Drive). He is very supportive and willing to work with you and your birth plan. I strongly recommend him if you want a different experience. By the way, his office is like a small spa that makes you feel very comfortable. His office number is: ###-###-#### and his group is called For Women and I think the website is www.forwomen-obgyn.com.

I've delivered 3 kids at Prentice (1 set of twins) using NMPG at 680 LSD. With my singleton, I used the midwives and worked most closely with Carol Hirschfield and Amy Willets who helped me make a birth plan and worked with me in our effort to have a water birth. With the twins, I needed to see one of the doctors on the staff and worked with Scott Moses, who I ADORE. I ended up delivering with Robbye McNair and loved her too. Really all the docs in that practice are pretty great and do a good job of respecting your choices.

My doctor, Dr. Kleinberg, is part of Women's Comprehensive Healthcare at 30 North Michigan. The contact number is ###-###-####. It is a large group of doctors and everyone on the team is wonderful. My second pregnancy was very stressful because my workplace was not the best about being understanding. He was awesome and a very calming influence. Definitely put the needs of the mom and baby above everything else. My father is also a retired OBGYN so I am very biased and particular about physicians. I cannot say enough wonderful things about him and the practice at Women's Comprehensive Healthcare. Good luck and congratulations!

If you go to the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation website, you can find doctors by specialty Gynecology/Obstetrics. The site gives you their education, background, and within what specific area of gyn/ob they focus. You could use this as the starting point; they all would deliver at Prentice.

J.,
Congrats on your pregnancy! I delivered my first baby at Prentice with the group of Midwives at Northwestern Mem. Physician's Group (www.nmpg.com). Unfortunately, my baby ended up breech so I had a scheduled c-section (Dr. Garvey did the surgery and was great) but the midwife on staff (Amy, that day) sat with me during the surgery and they did all my prenatal and after-care. If you're having a normal healthy pregnancy, I *HIGHLY* recommend midwives vs. OB/GYN docs - you get more time, attention, etc, with your care. Plus, if you're considering trying to avoid interventions during the birth, you're more likely to accomplish that using a midwife.

I agree with Amy K. I'm also registered with Dr, Tim Garvey and he is wonderful! He is one of a team of 7 doctors at NWH and Prentice, and they are all wonderful. They also have a team of midwives too, if you want to go that route.
I love Dr. Garvey, but also love Dr. Moses on that team.
Good luck and congrats!!!!
