That punishes children for pointing out the object you are referring to was never widely used during their lifetime!

Records if you were wondering.

Anyone with me?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Mom, ya know, I have heard that is hell but my kids have never been able to do things I can't. I assure you they hate me for it. Nothing worse than being the only teen who's mom knows more about computers than they do. :p

This morning I kept telling Genna to take her meds. After the third time I said I feel like a broken record. "What is this record you speak of?" Brat!!

Tricia, I was that person. I had my older two at 20 and 22 but because of luck we were squarely middle class so most of the people we hung around with had their kids at a reasonable age. The worst I can imagine was one of my friends saying I graduated in 68 and me like an immature shit, I was born in 68. On behalf of us annoying people, I am sorry. I did get it thrown back at me when I decided to have two more at 31 and 33 if it makes you feel any better....

Jennifer, I laughed the whole time I was typing this. I love my kids just the way they are, which just happens to be shits just like their mom. :)

SB, I love your son!! :)

Rae, I still have my first cell phone, which was one for those sack phones. I kept it for laughs. Strange thing is when I showed it to my younger kids they thought it was sooooo cool! Until I pointed out it has no screen, just numbers. How did you text?

ROFL - YES! Me too. My 7 year old had a VHS tape (I had it from college or something, I don't know) - anyway, she goes, "What IS this?!" I explained it was kind of like a DVD when I was little. She said, "Oh, no Blu-Ray either?" I told her no, no Blu-Ray. She asked, "Did you at least have an Xbox?" I told her no, we didn't have video games. "What about a Nook? Did you have one of those?" I said no, we just read regular books made of paper. Finally she goes, "Did you even have CARS way back then, or did you just ride horses?"

Apparently my kid thinks I grew up Amish.

I volunteer in the school library - when I told a 3rd grader that something was located over on a shelf by the dictionary, she said "that's an actual book?"

Yep, Kid! Dictionaries and Encyclopedias were actual books. And I graduated high school before Wikipedia and Google.

When my son was three he said he wished he knew me when I was little. I remember all excitedly asking if he wanted to be my friend and play with me. He sighed big and responded with , "No. I really want to pet a dinosaur."

When my dd was in 2nd grade, my 96 year old grandfather stayed with us for a couple of weeks. He was an interesting, mentally-sharp, kind old man and I arranged for him to visit my daughter's class. He reminded me that he hadn't been in an grade-school classroom in over 80 years.

So as he walked into her classroom he seemed to take it all in: the shiny desks, the computers, the white dry-erase board, the bright decorations, etc. He said to the teacher "My, how things have changed since I was a boy", and the teacher said to him "Yes! You must be so surprised to see the computers!" And he responded "Oh no, I meant the electric lights! I could never have imagined having electricity in a classroom when I was in second grade!"

It was a real eye-opener for the adults.

Our daughter is working with a woman who does not know anything about computers.

This lady asked my daughter if she knew "where the typewriters were located?"

.. Our daughter looked at her and was speechless.. She said all she could think of was.. to tell this woman.. 'In a museum"?

On the porch the other day was a bag. My 5 year old and I went to check it out. I pulled out a big book. DD said in a very excited tone "mom I think I have seen one of these before". Ha - it was a phonebook.

LOL! It is so humbling to have to call my 11 year old son to push the buttons in the appropriate order so I can watch a DVD. Accompanied by a heavy sigh and mumbled "it's not that hard, mom"....

My four year old the other day asked if he could play checkers on my phone...I said sure. Forgetting that I added a pass code...he says "Mom, what's your pass code?"....

He's FOUR! And knows what a pass code is. So I tell him...walk over and voila he's playing checkers already.

I'm sorry J., but when I read what Genna said, I'm ashamed to admit that I laughed. Like really laughed.

My friends son recently discovered that phones used to have cords. He thought that was so weird. He's nine.

My daughter is only four, it will come. Right now I am enjoying the fact she thinks I can fix anything.

Okay, here's what disturbs me more. My TWO YEAR OLD knows how to work both the DVD player and the VCR...she can eject what she's watching, take it out, find a new one, put it in, and play it. She can turn them on and off. And no one really specifically taught her this...I realized one day that she had changed her movie and was BLOWN AWAY. I'm pretty sure when I was two, we didn't have either (lol)...I remember RENTING a VCR from the video store when I was like, 8.

I've tried to keep my children aware of what "used to be" as much as possible. We have a record player with lots of old records (mine). :) We constantly regale them with stories of our youth. Now is the time, I guess (they're seven and two)...I'm sure when they're teens, they won't want to hear it!!

("What is this ___ you speak of...?") We often get the "Who is this ___ you speak of..?" though... And yeah.... it comes from both the 11 and 14 year old.

Now mind you, I am not that old...only 35...but my oldest SS's were poking fun about how their Dad and I are SO old that they probably didn't even have video games 'back in your day'....

I searched for about 2 months and bought a original Nintendo ES w/the 1st Super Mario Bros. game and brought it home and sat down and beat the whole game right in front of them....I threw that controller down like 'BAM! In YOUR FACE'!! and then walked away...it felt so great! --->Especially since I have spent so much freaking $$ on Mario Bros. games for them through the years :)

Then not to be outdone husband bought one of the Atari sets they are selling again these days and put on PONG and was like...'MmmmHmmm, I had the ORIGINAL VIDEO GAME, ya punks' I don't think I have laughed that hard in a long time...just the way he did it...it was RAD!--->to use a word from *my* generation!!

Then we had a nice talk about rotary phones and how much I would LOVE to have one again...

YES!! my kids saw a TV that only had 13 channels on it and it had rabbit ears...they asked what "that big box is? where are all the channels? Where is the remote????"

I told them - that was what I grew up with - 13 channels and **I** was the remote!!!

My mother was from the Black Hills - DURING THE DEPRESSION - my grandfather was a miner - they didn't have running water and had an out-house until my mom was 4. Then they got in-door plumbing!!! WOW!!!

Since they've been camping in remote areas - the know out-houses..

So any way - YES!!! Pass the law!!! While you're at it - can you pass a budget too since we haven't had one in 4 years????

My daughter is shockingly tech savy. It's amazing watching her navigate the computers and laptop. She's recently started to play Skylanders by herself.

The worst is having her look through old pictures of me in highschool. "Mommy! You look so little!!"

Records, phones WITH cords, Answering machines, Internet, DVD's, and Cellphones. My son still think it is hilarious that I didn't have a cell phone until I was 25 years old. He asked what I did if I got stuck somewhere..I said, I used a payphone.."What's a payphone mom?" He's only 8 so he gets a free pass. But, Really?? I'm not THAT old..

At least I will never get the " what's Led Zeppelin" question. Very proud my son listens to Classic Rock. As well as Beastie Boys.
