I Thought I Already Concieved, but Just Had a Temp Drop

I am trying to concieve my first, and my chart showed that I possibly ovulated July 30th. I also have had symptoms of either PMS or pregnancy (tender breasts, fatigue, headache, bloting, nausea) for over 2 weeks, and very slight spotting for two days (Aug. 11-12). This morning my temperature dropped from 98 to 97.5. It is never that low, so I'm wondering if I am going to ovulate tomorrow. I already use Fertility Friend, but have very unpredictable cycles where I may not ovulate at all. Has anyone had a significant drop in temp after conceiving?

What can I do next?

From my own tracking and learning - a temp drop means you are probably going to start your period. Especially a 0.5F drop. Sorry if that is the case. You need at least 18 high temps to confirm pregnancy.

I agree with the other response - try some of the fertility tracking programs online - they are very helpful. I highly recommend Taking Charge of Your Fertility but Fertility Friend is just as good.

Let us know what happens.

I used one of the over the counter ovulation kits to help me. Buy the one that has 20 'tests' and use one everyday around the time you think you should ovulate. You can add your information to one of those on line calendars and it should give you an approximate date...Good luck conceiving.

If you've had spotting this week and a temp drop then you are probably getting ready to start your period. It it had been a drop around 8 days past ovulation that could have been implantation but you are far past that window now. I would join Fertility Friends, they've got a free membership and also provide a 20 week training course through email that teaches you about your bodies signs and things to do/look for when TTC. You might also hop over to the parents.com message boards in the babymaking 101 section. That is their trying to conceive board and everyone is really nice.

Hi A.,
To be honest, it sounds like you are getting ready to start your period. After ovulation, your temps will increase due to the presence of progesterone. It takes about 2 weeks for the progesterone to diminish, and when it does, your temp will drop and your period will start. If you are pregnant, the implanted embryo will produce progesterone, thereby keeping your temp high. If you get a temp drop close to when your period is due, it usually means it's coming very soon. You can always take a home pregnancy test. If you did ovulate around July 30th, you should be able to get an accuruate result.

Also, if it turns out that you're not currently pregnant, I know of a great website that helps track fertility signs. I don't want it to seem like I'm soliciting on here, so if you are interested, send me a private message and I will give you the web address.

Good Luck!

All my best!
A.

I did the temp. thing to get pregnant/track my cycle/NOT get pregnant :-) for all 3 of my kids. I agree with the others, it seems like you are going to start your period. IF you were pregnant, then this is a sign you could miscarriage - but I also think your symptoms were too soon for signs of pregnancy. Let us know! My thoughts/prayers will be with you in your hopes to become a mommy!!!
