So What Happened?

I loved all your advice, and the laughs. So I went on Amazon.com and after reading about a ton of Pilates DVD's I ended up with Leslie Sansone 1,2,& 3 mile Walk Away The Pounds (one dvd) with the round hand weights and the Gaiam Pilates Beginning Mat Workout. So wish me luck I will start working out as soon as they come. I am going to have to get up at 5am to workout in peace. I have a 4 month old who makes sure she is up at 7 am.....

I have the original Winsor Pilates DVD set. I LOVE it! I'm sure you could find it on ebay or something?? I have the hips, buns and thighs DVD, the abs DVD, and the whole shibang workout with 3 different workouts on one DVD. Good luck finding them! I hope you like it! What exactly did you mean by you help other mom's work from home? Thanks, H.

I found a wonderful DVD at wal-mart. It was only about $5 or $10. My friend found the same DVD at the Dollar general Store for just a few bucks. It is called "Pilates for Dummies" and comes in the same black and yellow as the other "for dummies" series. It is very basic and I find it great for the "mommy body" beginner.

Could you share your work from home info. Please.

Easy, I have an old excersize bike I got a million years ago. It only has peddles and counts miles and you can adjust tension. I got it for $35. I have a very bad back but if I put the tension on the lowest setting I can peddle for ten miles! This gives me a great aerobic workout every day without straining my back at all. If you start with something simple like walking and stretching. Ease into whatever you do so you don't get discouraged. When it's nice and my twins were small, I took them for lots of walks and slowly worked up to riding my bike again. Your 13 yr old may enjoy walking with you too. Take turns with the stroller, etc. Bring music, anything to make it enjoyable and keep yourself motivated.

Gaiam conditioning for weight loss. It has actually 3 levels so you can continue using it for a while. I used it before I had kids and had a killer body.....unfortunately with 2 under two I never get more then 15 min into it before someone cries. It's like they know I am taking time for myself or something....
anyway, I really loved this video, and you can find it at wal-mart or order directly from Gaiam.com

I have been a dance teacher for 16 years and have taught and taken my fair share of pilates. I do like the Mari Windsor series.. I'm a fan of the circle. I used Pilates to put my body back together after each of two c-sections. Speaking of staying at home, I am now freelancing and am available for in-home private lessons, should you find it hard to keep the commitment to yourself. (I always did) Depending on where you live, I could do 8 1-hour sessions for $250. If you are interested I can send you a resume and references... Karen Duren ###-###-####

Try Leslie Sandsone "You can do Pilates" she's the one that does the walk away the pounds series. She also has a you can do abs (done on the stability ball) and you can do yoga. you can get them individually or all in a set. Some stores put them with the exercise equipment and others with the DVD's. Ebay is a great place to get them as well. hope you enjoy.

The Windsor Pilates Series. She is a guru of it and it is all floor work, a lot of old school moves that you did not realize were pilates related. I believe you can find this at Walmart. I am a group fitness instructor and apply her style a lot. I've taken the big seminars and such and there are no difference when it comes to the floor work and your bodies natural resistance. She covers all the basics that I have learned in my seminars.

I started with Winsor Pilates Basic 3dvd workout set. I liked it b/c one dvd is devoted to basic step-by-step instruction/proper form. The 2nd dvd is a slow 20 minute workout(I liked to do twice). Hope this helps. I would love to be a stay at home Mommy...any suggestions?

M.,

I own my own dance studio in Oak Island, NC. You may want to look for a dance studio that offers classes for adults...especially ballet. Don't worry if you have never taken classes before, these classes are usually built for beginners. My adult class is made up of some women that have all never danced before. 2 of the women in my class go to the gym and do weight lifting, step aerobics, pilates, yoga, kick boxing...etc...and they say the dance classes are the best exercise that they get all week long. Dance hits those hidden muscles that you don't know are there, and it hits multiple muscles at once. Once your youngest gets older you may look into Mom and Tot classes...LOTS of FUN!!! Some dance schools will also offer daycare while you take your class if that is an issue! Good Luck...let me know if I can help you out!

Hi M.,
I have 3 boys and a husband that travels, so I know that feeling good about yourself is hard when you feel like you have no time. I actually love the Mari Windsor DVDs. They are easy to understand, and if you do them correctly, a great workout. Some are also only 20 minutes long! I found all of mine at Target.
Hope this helps and good luck!

One of the best Pilates series I have used is Windsor Pilates, usually featured on TV infomercials. However, you can also find them on Amazon and ebay for much less! She always has a great 20-minute basic workout, in addition to (if you get them) more advanced workouts.
Hope this helps!

I have a couple of good pilates dvd's that I use, and they are for beginners to experts. One is the GAIAM pilates beginning mat workout. I love this one, as it has beginner level then advanced. I think I got that one at Book's a Million. The other one is Simply ball and band. It has 3 levels from beginner to advanced. I got it, the ball, a book, and the band at Sam's Club for 15.00 plus tax. It's pretty simple the way it starts out. It might be the one you should try first. They both are pretty easy to learn, but it has simpler stuff than the first one. Thanks, A.
