Hi Fina,
I am a single mom since my son was 2months old. He is now 6years old. I now have a boyfriend, so I get more help now. I always did everything on my own so I know some what you are going through. I have always worked so I don't know that part of it. I am not sure if this helps but, you can go on several sites to help find a job. I am not sure what area you are in. One site is called Indeed.com or craigslist.com All you do is put what type of job you are looking for and the location and you can e-mail them your resume or sometimes you can fax it. I hope this helps you. Also I'm not how much this would help but, here are some number's that help single families Salvation Army they can help with food ###-###-#### they are in Irving on Grauwyler and here is Irving Cares ###-###-#### they also help with food ask for Teddie Story. Good luck. Just remember god nevers gives you more than you can handle. Things happen just to make you stronger.

Hi Fina
Where do you live? Are you looking for a full-time 8-5 job? You might check out snagajob.com... they are mostly restaurant, department store, fast food jobs. I work at UT Southwestern in Dallas, we have a lot of 'clerical' positions.
Also, I am a Home Interiors Consultant. You are 'self-employed', hold home shows... some women who really 'work' it, make around $40,000 a year. If you are interested in that, let me know and I can take you to our meetings (which are usually held on Monday nights, twice a month)

Depending on the area of the metroplex you want to work in. Here are some places I know that are hiring.
American Airlines
Novo1-my friend just started working day and night shifts paid weekly
Express Personnel in beford hiring for HCA (direct placement) health insurance customer service and collections and for Nuvell customer service and collection for auto loan branch of GMAC-you will need a clear criminal background

workintexas.com...many companies list jobs there and you can also look for state, government, and university jobs..as a matter of fact UTA had some openings for administrative assistants and recruiters.

Depending on your circumstances and daycare for kids if needed Wal-Mart, Kroger, Target are easy to get hired on with- to just get you buy while your waiting for the job you really want.

Good Luck!!

If you were laid off you have the rights to file unemployment. I've been laid off before and it sure does help pay some of the bills...that is at least the mortgage. I also am a single mom, no husband/boyfriend, nor have ever asked or taken anyones helps. Keep your head it. But you should go file for that in the mean time. Oh and temp agencies will also give you some kind of start.

Hope it all works out.

Hi Fina,
I've been a single mom, too, in the past and I know how very difficult life is for you. My heart goes out to you. This may sound trivial to you at this time, but some time in the future you will look back on these days and wonder how you did it. The answer is really that you did it because you had to for your children.

Do you belong to a church in the area? If not, I encourage you to look for a good church to attend and to get involved with. You need the support of others when going through such hard times. If you are going to a church that does not provide this support, I suggest you find one that does. Also, there may be some known job openings through a church network. Some churches have benevolent funds that are set aside to help families like yours, as well. I would love to invite you to my church The Church On Rush Creek at Bowen and Green Oaks in South Arlington. We have an excellent children's program and activities for all ages.

Also, Fina, if you are interested in working at home, check out this website. www.homemommy.biz No cold calling, no door-to-door, no parties, no inventory. I will be happy to give you any additional information you would like.

Best wishes and God's blessings,
~ N.

Check the Time Warner Cable or T-System website to see if they are hiring. Customer Service depts nmlly have high turn over, so most major companies with a Customer Service dept should be hiring...well, I would think.

Dig out the old clothes your children can no longer wear, the decent ones, and sell them to a consignment store.

If you have any extra cell phone or electronics/appliances, post them on Ebay for sale.

A pawn shop could be an option if you really have to go that far. They nmlly don't give you very much for your items though.

Does Half Price bookstore buy old books? Maybe you can sell your old CDs to a CD warehouse.

Hope it helps. I'll be praying for you and your family. (And if you need encouragement, you could listen to K104 on Sunday mornings at 7:30, or log on to www.ibocjoy.com for a live broadcast)

This is by no means a long term solution - but if you need immediate cash it could help...if you have any gold jewelry - go sell it. Gold is at an all time high right now - and if you have any necklaces or bracelets that are 10 or 14K - you can get cash for them at places like the Dallas Gold & Silver Exchange.

Best of luck - hope you're back on your feet soon!

do you live in the Dallas area? There are survey/research companies that pay $75-100 for your time (an hour or two) to sit on a focus group and discuss products. I have done it 2x and they are legit and they hand you a check or cash as you walk out the door. they are both in North Dallas so you would need someone (hopefully a friend for no charge!) to watch your kids for a little while.

Do you barter? Bartering is a wonderful thing for receiving things you need. I don't do it enough! I used to be a massage therapist and I bartered my services for things like jewelry, chiropractic services, even spaces in holistic fairs so I could promote my business (I once gave Wayne Dyer and Joan Borysenko a massage...wow!). Think about what you can offer and what you need. Think outside the box. I just read about a woman who started fixing healthy meals that she put in the freezer. Her neighbor saw the casserole and wanted it, so she bought it. Next thing she knew, she had quit her job and was selling healthy frozen casseroles for a living. Is there something like that you can do? I am a full time student living on part time tutoring and student loans, so I'm looking for ways to increase my income as well.

Good luck, and let me know if you come up with some good ideas I could use as well,

I'm surprised only one person said it so far, but the first thing you need to do is get on unemployement. If you were laid off then you are eligible. B/c a Garage Sale is not "extra money" in your case, and I'm sure it won't be enough to cover the majority of your expenses.

You said it's been about a month since you've worked, at this point you will probably also be eligible for food stamp/TANF benefits as well.

I second the others, sign w/ a temp service, check craigslist, clean houses, or whatever you can do.

Good luck to you and God Bless

Good morning Fina!
I have a few suggestions for you. Having a garage sale is a great idea, but for larger items or items that you feel are in good condition for someone else to use can be put on this website http://dallas.craigslist.org/. If you have exercise equipment, childrens items such as high chairs, bookshelves, anything else you are not using and just storing would be worth it.

Also I would recommend you attend a class offered by Dave Ramsey class on financial stewardship. It is both fun and very informative.

Fina, if you would like an opportunity to be at home with your children and have an income I would be happy to talk to you about the Mary Kay business opportunity.

Finally Fina, I hope thy belong to a place of worhip that may be abel to offer you the help you need until you get on your feet. There are several services that provide the food, funds and other things that can give you some support.

Have a wonderful day!!

Fina,

I would normally ask people what their deepest passions are in life - what drives them - secret desires they have held their whole lives...

But I understand what it is like to need money, and need it now. While you could easily contact some of the jobs that people have listed here (very gracious of them), there is something that could make you a lot more money.

House Cleaning.

I know, I know, it is not a glamorous job. But people make some good money by doing it. You tough part will be getting your first one or two houses, but I am sure you have plenty of tenacity, seeing how you are a single mom! :)

Focus on working families, older couples, and upper class. These are the people who are most likely willing to pay you to clean their house. If you do some research, you will find how much people charge to clean a house in your area. (Simply call some house cleaners and pretend you are interested in having YOUR home cleaned.) But, for sure, read about it online. I have read some good tips like having a set list of services included, then charging extra for things like WINDOWS!

Marketing will be the hardest part of your job, but if you are a good cleaner, that will only be in the beginning. Market, market, market. That will create money, money, money.

Good luck to you, and turn your dreams into goals, and always keep your goals in mind.

Let us know what you decide to do!
