Hello, I currently live in North Charleston. My neighborhood is really nice (besides my nasty neighbor who refuses to move her car another story) there is not trouble I live in a mostly military community. Its in the summerfield community I think everything is owned by evens & evens. its really clean. People are nice and friendly. Its quite at nights. As someone said earlier it depends where you live. Its like the everywhere do. Summerville and james island have rough patches too. Hopes this helps. Once you come to the area i be happy to show you around (if i have a car then lol)

Hi-
Park Circle area is supposed to be an up and coming neighborhood. It's being revitalized. I would look there myself but it is too far from work. Good luck!

The North Charleston area has it's good spots and not so good spots. The area was originally very heavy in military life..we had an old navy base there that is now under gone a new facelift and the Mayor is really trying to make the city a new place. The good parts are it's a vibrant community lots of activities lots of families... but as in community due to income levels there's some rough spots. You just need to be careful where you decide to rent ... not sure if that helps.. but another thought North Charleston is the center of this community so if you were to live in other areas (West Ashley for instance) you husband would still only have 10-15 minute commute..but depends on your income levels... hope this helps..

Hi there! I actually have family in Tecumseh!
I was born and raised here in Charleston. Actually on James Island. North Charleston is a pretty rough area. Try looking in the West Ashley or James Island area. West Ashley is literally just over the bridge from N Charleston, 10 minutes tops. James Island is about 15-20 minutes from N Charleston. Where at in N Charleston is he being relocated?

I'll be relocating from michigan to the same area. I am 33 with a 2 and 4 year old.

Hi H.,

I have lived in the Charleston area for the majority of my life and I would say that as a general rule, if you move further north, towards the Summerville area, you will probably really like it. There are many nice communities and developments up that way, especially along the upper Dorchester Road corridor.
Hope that helps!
Good luck with your move!

I lived in N. Charleston for many years, in Northwood Estates subdivision. It is one of the better areas in N. Charleston, 3 miles or less away from Northwoods Mall, and I was happy there with my infant daughter, however, as she became a little older, I found there were no small children in the area for her to play with. I moved to Hanahan area ( Tanner Plantation). I bought a new home for just over $200,000, and they are still building in this area for that price. There are several homes for rent as well. My subdivision has a pool, amenity center, sidewalks, and alot of cul-de-sacs that are wonderful for your small children to play outside safely. Please check into this area!! It is great!!
