Okay, this might seem like an odd question....... but my daughter absolutely loves the water. She loves bath time, until it comes time for me to rinse her hair. She won't lay back for me, so I have to end up just pouring water over her, and she HATES it!! I need some way to rinse her hair that's not so tragic for her! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

My little guy (2) also hates the rinsing part. I bought the rinse cup and that helped, the first couple of times. After that we were back to the crying every time.

At the end of the summer I found some kid-sized plastic goggles on sale. Now he wears the goggles through the whole bath and rinsing is easier. At the end of the bath he gets to "go through the waterfall." The only problem now is finding the goggles after he has used them to be "superguy".

Just another idea someone may find useful.

Hey, Wal-Mart sells this great item in the baby department where the bathtubs are, it looks like a water bucket, but it has a soft area on it that is rubber and forms to the top of the head for when you rinse. My little one went through the same ordel when it came to rinseing, she is 21 months, this item made it easier for us when it was time to rinse. Took a few times but she doesn't get water in the eyes anymore and is fine with me useing it now and rinseing her head. Hope this helps. If you can't find it ask a asssociate that works the department, they will know what I am talking about, it is a hard to keep on the shelf and stocked item. Works that great!

There is a cup that you can buy at Wal-Mart that is especially for that purpose. It is in the baby section, and it costs about $8 or $9. Here is a link for you to go to so you can look at a picture of it and find out how it works.

I too use the little cap that looks like a base ball hat, without the top in it. I got mine @ Toys "R Us and I think they were like 2 for 4-5 dollars. My little boy is 5 and we still use them! As far as he is concerned, there is no other way !! HA!

They have little hats that look like visors to help keep water out of their eyes when you rinse.

My 8 year old son, at 2 HATED getting his face wet. I ended up buying a foam visor at Target. It worked wonderfully!
Now my 3 year old daughter HATES to get her face wet as well but does lay back in the tub for me.

Good luck!

My daughter Emily will be 2 in June, and I'm still doing the "water over the head" thing. I do a little warning ahead of time. I say "Ready.. 1... 2... 3..." and then pour some water over her head with a cup. I try to aim more towards the back of her head so she doesn't get too much water in her face. It takes about 3 times to get all the soap out of her hair.

J.,

I had the same problem and here is what I did and it has worked for the last two children also. I got those ducks that go in the bathroom wall in the shower and put one up just high enough that she would have to look up so that the water would run backward and not forward. At first I would give her a handtowel to put over her eyes and ears from the front with I figured out that is why she was acting crazy.

I hope this gives you some ideas.

There is a special cup just for rinsing hair that I found at wal-Mart. It's only a couple of bucks, and it rinses the hair with less of a chance of getting in her eyes. you can find it in the baby section next to the lotions and soaps.

We have one of those shower heads that is also a handheld sprayer but before that we played "Rainstorm". When I scrubbed her head Id do it kinda rough, and make crashing sounds for thunder. By rough I just mean enough to make her laugh. Then the rinsing of course would be the rain. It workes and its fun. I remember my Grams doing the same thing with me. Hope this helps.

You might try using a shower massage. Let her have fun in the bath, then turn that on to wash her hair. Either that or move her to the kitchen & wash her hair over the sink with her lying on her back. I remember they use to sell an attachment for faucets that turned them into a little shower massage and I would wash my childrens hair in the sink that way. I could get it up close to their heads so they weren't so freaked by the water.

Good luck to you.

I have a 2 year old boy and he hated it too. I see the cup mentioned by others at Wal Mart all the time. We simply use a regular plastic cup. I let him play with it and now he will even rinse his hair himself. He tries to dump the water onto his head- usually only getting a little part. I think letting him play with the cup helps calm his fears about it. I also have his towel handy so as soon as I rinse and he freaks if a drop gets on his face, I let him dry his face off!
Good luck!!

My twins don't like the "just pour the water over their heads" and it took awhile to get them used to it. But we made a game out of it. My daughter has long hair and so getting the soap out is important. So we got them to put their heads back and look up at the stars, ladybugs, moon, sun, etc. I use a cup and give them a washcloth to put over their eyes (for added measure).

I think all little ones go thru that. My twins are 3 1/2 and I think they probably got used to it around 3...also swimming in the pool and getting their faces wet helped as well. :)

Hope that helps. Also, they have hats that you can buy at WalMart, KMart, etc. that they put on their heads that is supposed to keep the water from getting on their faces. Sometimes you have to really look for them, but thats another suggestion.

Take care,
God Bless,
J. D

What I would use is like a sunvisor. You can pick one up at Kmart. They are in the infant and toddler section and look like a rubber sunvisor. It helps keep the water off of their face and out of their eyes while allowing you to completely rinse the hair out.

My daughter is almost 2 and still hates it! We have one of those special cups that the others have mentioned, and I tell her to "look up!". She did well with the looking up part at first, then she went through a phase where she acted totally terrified, and now she just fusses! But I think it's getting better, maybe there is an end to this!

If shes not too young, maybe have her take a shower instead of a bath and teach her its ok to get your hair n face wet that way.
