Focus your diet on your FAVORITE variety of fruits & veges, baked or broiled lean meat and fish, and just a little bit of whole grains only like brown rice, whole wheat bread. Use something like Benecol instead of butter. Stay away from most all the grocery isles in between the meat, dairy and the produce, drink a lot of water while you are eating (& in between snacks)and a glass of wine should be the most alcohol you have in a day. Start your day with a good sized healthy breakfast, and then just snack on the above for the rest of the day, rather than 3 large meals. (Be sure to use only the smaller salad plates) Other good snacks are nuts and yogurt. You can still treat yourself with a Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich (careful they are addictive)and do NOT eat past 7 or 8pm. Find a friend who will commit to an hourlong brisk walk with you at least one day a week. Or, if you have a treadmill, put a tv in front of it if possible and only allow yourself to watch your favorite show if you are also on the treadmill. Also, watch Dr. Oz whenever he is on Oprah, he's very inspiring and informative. Good luck!

Headaches may be due to dehydration. You should be drinking a gallon of water a day.

I believe diets are worthless. Eating healthy and making a permanent change is much better. I am still in the process, but I have already gotten so far. I used to eat a lot of fast food and sweets. I started small by switching to 1% milk and whole grain breads. Then I started adding more vegetables to my meals and then I switched my noodles and rice to wheat. It doesn't taste any different and it costs the same, but it's so much healthier. A couple quick really easy recipes I like are 1. Turkey sandwiches. I get whole wheat english muffins, a small tomatoe, barbeque sauce and italian turkey meatballs. Cut the meatballs in half, two full meatballs per sandwich. If you buy the meatballs by the bag, they are pre-cooked, you just have to warm them in the microwave and coat them with a little bbq sauce. Put 1 slice of tomatoe on each sandwich under the meatballs. Serve it with some sweet potatoe fries or maybe some steamed and seasoned veggies on the side. Its actually very filling. The other quick meal I really like is chicken stirfry. for your family size, I would use two chicken breasts. I like to cook several breasts at one time and wrap some up and put it in the fridge for quick meals later in the week. Cut up the two cooked breasts into cubes and toss into a frying pan. Add chopped up veggies, I prefer to buy frozen already chopped veggies, it saves a lot of time and its cheaper then buying fresh, but still healthy. Add some stir-fry sauce and whole wheat rice (or noodles, depending on your preference) Good luck

I agree with Dana M. You should really increase your water consumption, if you haven't already. If you're a soda drinker, drop it. (If you happen to be cutting sugars or caffeine dramatically you can actually have withdrawls, including headaches.)

Find something aerobic you love to do (or can tolerate) and sweat, sweat, sweat. Follow it up with good stretching and weight lifting. If you're exercising right (good form) then you'll feel stronger, more energetic, and more likely to make good food choices. When in doubt: Grab an apple!

Good luck.

Those were all great ideas from the other moms. They were all things that Weight Watchers teaches you (water, high fiber, exercise). I highly recommend going to the support classes every week. You learn a lot about nutrition, recipes, tricks to help you stay on track. And the comraderie! All your sisters out there struggling with the same thing! I was afraid to step into the class in 1992, but will always be glad I did. It was EXACTLY what worked to switch gears in my brain and think like a healthy eater. I had gotten up to a size 16 (too much for a 5'3" person) and in 6 months was back to a size 8. The best part is that I've stayed that size ever since! I just go to the meetings once a month- for free as a life time member.
I have to confess that in those first 6 months, I didn't exercise because my knees still hurt from carrying all that weight. But now, I walk every day. I wish you luck and happiness!

If you're having headaches regardless of what you're eating or not eating and they start in your neck, go see a chiropractor and a massage therapist. If those don't help after a while try acupuncture. I do all three and they're the only things that have helped my chronic headaches!
