I am going to my daughter in laws baby shower. In the invitation, they asked that we bring a book instead of cards for the baby, so they will have them as he grows to look at and read. I am looking for a book that talks about family members (ex: mom, dad, grandpa, grandma, aunts, uncles, siblings.) I would like this book to have slots where we can put pictures of these people in there and this way the baby will recognize them. I remember when our children were small they really enjoyed looking through pictures of family members in photo albums. Any suggestions of where I can find such a book, I would like this to be some thing that he can keep as a keepsake. Thanks for your suggestions.

Kmart has a very cool baby's first photo album and mom and dad can insert pictures and then talk about the different family members. Another book that I strongly suggest, each of my kids have one, is Goodnight Moon. It is a classic and a very calm read. My 2 year old likes to talk about the different things in each picture.

This isn't exactly what you are looking for, but there is a company called Constructive Playthings (www.constplay.com) and they have a brightly colored, padded, cloth photo album for babies. There are 11 pages with a slot for one photo on each page. There aren't any words, but if you get creative, you could put the pictures in and then write about the family members yourself...just an idea. The item number is JOL-26L. It's $12.99 Good Luck!

There is a book they sell at any Target, Walmart, etc. called "Who Loves Baby". It is a little rubbery book that you can insert pictures into to show your little one who loves baby. It's rubbery so they don't destroy it.

Hi S. -- I love your idea but have no idea where you could buy such a book. Why not make one? You could get a photo album [or you could get an attractive loose-leaf binder and those clear plastic pages that are divided into separate pockets (like what kids put baseball cards in)]. Then pick out a bunch of photos - familiar places as well as people - and write a sentence or two for each picture on a file card and place it in the pocket next to the photo. It might be easier for a child to read if you typed your comments good & big! A nice feature of such a book is that he can add to it - first day at school, new baby cousin, riding a 2-wheeler, etc.

Gee, I love the idea! Think I'll make one for my grandson!

Whatever you get, have fun putting it together!

Archivers! You could make the book yourself using a scrapbook and cardstock/paper and stickers from there. It would make it that much more special and then you'd have some freedom as far as the size and shape of the pictures, who you want to put in it, etc.!

You could just get a small cute photo album and put a picture on one side and then type a cute message about that person or the event for the other side. I would glue the photo sleeve shut so that baby can't take it apart, just make sure it is acid free so it wont ruin the pictures.

Hi S.,

I have a friend who makes a book for each of her grandchildren when they are little. She buys a small photo album (that has plastic pockets to insert the photos) and inserts a photo on one double-page spread and inserts paper cut to size on the other side with the story. You can tell your family story, make up a story (using your family members) or get creative and tell what is happening in each picture. I have seen hers and they are just precious!

I use Shutterfly to upload pictures and then you can turn them into books. You put a picture on the page and then you can type in text. My daughter is almost 3 and we make these (the spiral bound ones are not too expensive) all the time. The early ones we made just had pictures of family members with their names and now we make them for events (she loves to relive things) like birthday parties...take pictures of the kids, the cake, the presents and make a story :)

well, i dont know about any photo books. my MIL got one for my son but i think she got it at a garage sale.

however, if you were ever looking for interesting, fun, educational books for kids - check out www.usbornforthefuture.com! :D there are many many many good books for kids of ALL ages! :D even adults! anyway, good luck on your search.
you could try www.freecycle.org and see if theres a local or somewhat local group in your area, and you can post a wanted message about the photo book!

If it were me... I would buy a small scape book kit that has a smaller book size album. Wal-mart and Target both have the kits. Make a page for each special person. Take a picture of all the people you want to include, then write something great about that person. Ex.. Grandpa loves his horses, Grammy loves to bake cookies. Uncle Kyle rides motorcycles. That way they can learn something special about the person they see. It would be an treasured gift.

Good Luck

Go to any store with an array of scrapbooking products. Michael's or JoAnnn Fabrics/Etc. craft stores and Archiver's Memory Store go to www.archiversonline.com (found in many malls) will surely have what you want and then some.

Target does have a small section of the store dedicated to scrapbooking too if you want to save a little money.

We have a little flip book that I got from Walmart (have also seen it at Target and BabiesRUs)that we put photos in. It is from Baby Einstein. It has a handle made for teething. We put photos of everyone our daughter comes into regular contact with (including the dogs). It would be fun for you to fill yours with photos of Grandma and anyone else (including your pets) that live with you. We used a label maker and put labels on each photo so that anyone who was helping our daughter "read" the book would know the proper names to call each person. I know a lot of people have pet names instead of Grandma and Grandpa.

Our daughter LOVES the book and is playing with it right now! Have fun! What a great request instead of cards (which can be nearly the same price)!

I haven't seen a book like you are talking about. We just used a 4x6 flip photo album with slide-in pages. We put a picture of each family member (and close friends) in there. I guess you could label them if you wanted (aunt, grandpa, daddy, etc.). We go through it every night and point at each face, naming them so she is familiar. My daughter is 13 mos. old. She loves it!! I guess you could put some of the pictures in there for her before you give it to her as a gift. She can always change out, or move pictures whenever she wants. Just an idea!

I bought my granddaughter a book when she was born called "Who loves baby" I put a picture of each of her family members holding her as a newborn. She loves that book and it is plastic so she was able to chew on it and swing it around. When she turned 1, I found one for her first birthday also. I put pictures of her birthday party in it and again she loves it. She still likes to look through both of them saying "baby Emma and Aunt Cassie" and naming each one. She is 2 now and when she looks at the birthday one she sings "happy birthday" to herself.

We recently bought my son an Elmo photo album (he's one and loves Elmo). It's a soft, chewable one that he can put in his mouth and not hurt the pictures since they are enclosed. He really loves it. It has pictures of grandparents, me and my husband, and his aunts/uncles/cousins. He loves reading the book "Who loves Matthew" as we call it.

For our daughter's first Christmas my mom just put several family photos in a $1 plastic photo album she picked up somewhere. My daughter loves to look at it! I think making a book of your own would be a wonderful gift! If you don't do scrapbooking or don't have the time to put into one there are a lot of web sites where you can publish your own book. I have used My Publisher, but there is also Snapfish, Creative Memories and several others. Kodak gallery has a very cute Eric Carle photobook that you just upload pictures to. It think it costs about $35. I think all of the sites are really easy to use. Just do a web search for photo books and you will get tons of websites!
